6. Al-An’am/The Livestock

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

06:01
All Praise and Gratitude be to Allah - the One and Only God,
WHO created without a precedent the celestial realm and the terrestrial world, and
made the darkness and the light.
Yet those who disbelieve ascribe other entities to their Rabb- The Lord.

06:02
It is HE WHO created you from clay,
and then decreed a span of lifetime for each one of you –
while another span of Time is appointed for the Final Judgment by HIM as well.
Yet despite that, you continue to doubt about it.

06:03
And HE is Allah in the celestial realm and also in the terrestrial world.
HE Knows exactly whatever you hide in your hearts and also whatever you utter publicly, and
HE also Knows whatever you are earning of good and evil – deeds, speech, and dealings.

06:04
a. Yet despite that not a Message comes to them with Messages from their Rabb - The Lord
without their turning away from it in denial.

06:05
And they have willfully and persistently belied the Truth – The Qur’an - when it came to them -
but soon will come to them the news of that which they have been ridiculing and mocking.

06:06
Do they not see in their travels as they pass by the ancient archaeological sites how many generations WE punished and destroyed before them?
WE had firmly established them in the land in a way WE have not established you.
And WE poured upon them plentiful rain from the sky clouds and provided them with rivers/streams of water flowing at their feet.
Yet despite that WE destroyed them for their sinful disobedience of their Prophets,
and after them, WE raised up other generations.

06:07
And even if WE had sent down onto you - O The Prophet - a visible transcript of The Qur’an written on paper, which they could touch and feel with their own hands,
those who disbelieve would have still said:
‘This is certainly a clear deception!’

06:08
And they would also say:
‘Why is an angel not been sent down upon him?’
Tell them:
‘Had WE sent down an angel, and if then they had not believed, then the matter would indeed have been settled,
and then they would have had no respite’ and no escape from Our devastating punishment.

06:09
Furthermore, had WE made an angel as OUR Messenger, WE would have certainly made him appear in the form of a human being,
thus WE would have confused them even more than they are confused now.

06:10
And so it was that many Messengers had been mocked before you, O The Prophet.
Then, they - who scoffed at them - were eventually overpowered by that which they used to mock.

06:11
Tell them:
‘Go around the world’s ancient archaeological sites, and
see for yourselves the remains of the destroyed sites that were still visible as to how the fate of those who belied’ OUR Messengers.

06:12
And ask them:
‘To whom belongs whatever is within the celestial realm and the terrestrial world?’
Tell them:
‘It all belongs to Allah!
HE has prescribed Mercy for HIMSELF.
And HE is going to gather you all, together at the Time of Resurrection-
about which there is absolutely no doubt!’
But only those who caused loss to their souls – they will not believe.

06:13
Whatever exists within the night and the day belongs to HIM.
And HE is All-Listening to whatever is said, and All-Knowing of whatever is done.

06:14
Ask them:
‘Should I take someone for a guardian other than Allah - the Creator of the celestial realm
and the terrestrial world?
It is HE WHO feeds everyone but is never in need of being fed by anyone!’
Say to them:

‘I have been commanded to be the first and foremost of those who submit to HIM in worship, awe, and piety,
and never to ascribe any entity of worship to Allah.’

06:15
Tell them:
‘If I were ever to disobey my Rabb - The Lord,
then I fear a woeful punishment of an Awful Time.’

06:16
Whoever is spared from it - the punishment - at that Awful Time will surely be the one whom HE will have shown mercy.
And that will be the obvious success.

06:17
And if Allah were to make you taste/experience some setbacks,
there is no one to relieve you from it but HIM alone.
And, if HE were to make you taste/experience some good, then,
And HE has Manifests Sovereignty over all existence.

06:18
And HE is the All-Powerful over HIS creatures.
And, HE is the All-Wise in HIS Command, and All-Aware of their motives and actions.

06:19
Ask them:
‘Of all things what is most vital as a testimony?’
Tell them:
It is ‘Allah!
HE is a Witness between you and me that I am HIS Messenger,
and that this Qur’an is being revealed on to me from HIM -
so that I may warn you by it, and to whoever it may reach.
Can you really testify as witnesses that there are other entities of worship apart from Allah?’
Tell them:
‘I do not testify to this.’
And also tell them:
‘Indeed, HE is One and Only Elah,
and I am absolutely free of what you ascribe to HIM in Unity and Worship.’

06:20
Those to whom WE had given the Scripture,
recognize the truth of it – The Qur’an - as much as they recognize their own children.
But those who have caused harm to their souls – they do not believe.

06:21
And who could be more in just than the one who:
fabricates falsehood against Allah, or
belies and denies HIS Messages in The Qur’an?
Such unjust people will definitely never succeed.

06:22
And do not be unmindful of The Time when WE are going to gather them all - altogether, and
WE will question those who ascribed other entities to Allah:

‘Where are your entities of worship whom you used to allege’ for having a part in Divinity with Allah, and that they would intercede for you?

06:23
Then their excuse will be none but to say:
‘By Allah, our Rabb - The Lord!
We were not the ones who ascribed any worshipful entity to Allah.’

06:24
See - O The Prophet - how they will lie against themselves, and
all that they had fabricated will have abandoned them.

06:25
And there are some among them who would pretend to listen to you reciting The Qur’an,
but – as a punishment - WE have put a covering on their hearts lest they understand it,
as well as a heaviness in their ears lest they comprehend it.
And even if they were enabled to see every Message as proof of the Divine Truth,
they would still not believe in it -
so much so that when they would come to you and argue with you.
As it is these who disbelieve allege:
‘This Qur’an is nothing more than fictitious tales of the ancient.’

06:26
And they keep others away from believing in it too - the Qur’an, as they keep themselves
away from it.
By doing so they are ruining no one but only themselves without their even realizing it.

06:27
And if only you could see them when they will be made to stand over the Fire -
then they are going to plead:
‘Ah!
Would that we could be sent back to worldly life!
So that we confirm and never belie and deny the Messages of our Rabb - The Lord.
And we would be of the believers.’

06:28
But no!
What they used to hide will now become clear to them.
And even if they were sent back to worldly life, they would still revert to what had been forbidden to them,
for, indeed, they are liars!

06:29
And now they say:
‘There is nothing of the Hereafter but it is our life of this world only,
and we are never going to be resurrected’ to a new dimension of existence from the dead.

06:30
But if only you could see them when they will be made to stand before their Rabb - The Lord -
HE is going to question them:
‘Is this – the resurrection and the accountability – not the truthful reality?’

They will answer in all humbleness:
‘Yes indeed, by our Rabb - The Lord!’
Whereupon HE will say:
‘So now taste/experience the punishment for what you had been denying and belying!’

06:31
Those who belie the truth of Meeting with Allah have incurred a huge loss.
until, when the Time of death descends upon them unexpectedly, they will say in deep regret:
‘Oh no - woe to us!
We never thought of this’ to happen so soon!
And they will carry the burdens of their sinful negligence on their backs.
Ahh!
How evil is the burden they will carry!

06:32
As for the life of this world, it is nothing but play and passing delight.
The life of the Hereafter is surely far better for those who are reverent.
Will you still not understand?

06:33
Indeed, WE know you are grieved and distressed by what they say - in slander, denial, and demand for miracles - O The Prophet.
Endure it with patience!
In fact, it is not you that they belie.
Rather, it is Allah’s Messages in The Qur’an that the unfair people openly flout and condemn!

06:34
Indeed, Messengers before you too had been belied and denied.
Even then they patiently endured being belied and suffered persecution, until OUR Help
finally came to them.
And remember there is no change of the outcome of Allah’s Words/Promises.
And certainly some of the account of former Messengers in this regard has already come to you.

06:35
And if their aversion to Islam is causing you distress O The Prophet,
then you must realize that even if you were able to seek miraculously
an opening going deep into the earth,
or raised a ladder reaching out to the higher realm,
so that you may bring them a miracle to convince them,
then go ahead,
– but they will still not be convinced and believe.
And had Allah so desired, HE could have brought them all together to the Guidance of Islam, but HE did not want it to be so.
So do not be unmindful of this fact.

06:36
It is only those with a living heart who hear your Call will respond to it.
As for the dead of heart who do not respond to your Call –

Allah is going to resurrect them,
and bring them all back to HIM anyway for judgment and reward of their belief, deeds, speech, and dealings.

06:37
And they say:
‘How is it that no miracle has been sent down on to him from his Rabb - The Lord?’
Tell them:
‘Surely, it is only Allah who has the power to send down a miracle,
but most of them are demanding it just because they have no understanding.’

06:38
Do you not see that there is neither a living creature in the world that walks on its feet nor
a bird flying upon its wings, but these are organized as communities just like you.
There is nothing that WE have left out to help them understand the truth of The Book.
Then a Time is going to come when the universe will be changed, and so will human existence into a new dimension, and they – all living creatures - will be gathered together before their Rabb - The Lord for Judgment and awards.

06:39
As for those who belie and deny Our Messages in The Qur’an, they are
deaf to hearing the Truth,
dumb to utter the Truth, and
lost in self-inflicted darkness of disbelief.
Whoever Allah wants, HE lets him wander,
and whoever HE wants, HE sets him along the Right Path.

06:40
Say to them:
‘O the People!
Have you ever considered:
if Allah’s Punishment were to come upon you suddenly in this world,
or if the Last Hour were to come upon you all of a sudden,
would you then be calling upon any entity for help other than Allah?
No!
Answer me, if you are honest’ in asserting that entities of your worship can actually benefit
you.

06:41
No way!
Instead, it is HIM alone that you will call for help,
and it is only HE WHO will relieve your distress and suffering as you call upon HIM, if it be HIS wish,
in that case, you will totally forget those entities whom you so often ascribe to HIM.

06:42
And, indeed, WE had assigned OUR Prophets before you to many communities of the world, whom they denied and belied their Missions.
Consequently, WE seized them with hardship and adversity, illness and poverty -
so that they might learn to humble themselves and submit to OUR Prophets and their Message.

06:43
Then why did they not learn to humble themselves and submit even when OUR Might/
Punishment came upon them?
On the contrary, their hearts even hardened,
as the Satan had made their deeds and dealings appear fair and pleasing to them.

06:44
So when they had become oblivious of what they were warned about,
WE opened wide the gates of every material thing on to them -
until they started gloating over what they were given of OUR material blessings.
WE seized them unaware with total destruction,
then it so happened that they were dumbfounded.

06:45
Thus were cut off at the root - a people who were unfair.
So all Praise be to Allah, Rabb - The Lord of all existence.

06:46
Now ask them:
Have you ever thought if Allah were to take away the faculties of your:
hearing, and
sight, and
seal your hearts,
which entity of your worship - apart from Allah - will restore them to you?
See how WE set out OUR Messages illustrating OUR Almightiness in diverse ways!
Yet they turn away in aversion and denial.

06:47
Keep up the argument and say to them:
‘Have you ever thought if Allah’s Punishment were to befall you suddenly or with a warning,
will anyone be destroyed except the people who are unjust - evildoers!?’

06:48
WE do not assign the Messengers to various communities with any other purpose but as
heralds of good news of Paradise to those who believe, and
warners of Fire to those who do not believe.
So then
whoever believes in the Messenger, and
reforms his deeds and dealings according to his teaching –
there will neither be any fear upon them,
nor will they ever grieve in the Hereafter.

06:49
While on the other hand,
those who deny and belie OUR Messages in The Qur’an,
punishment will befall them for being transgressors of limits.

06:50
So tell them O The Prophet:
‘You ask me to bring you miracles to prove the truthfulness of my Divine Mission.

However, let me tell you that:
I do not proclaim to you that I possess Allah’s Treasures,
nor do I know of that which is beyond my and human perception,
nor do I claim to you: ‘I am an angel.’
I am following with due diligence only what is being revealed on to me’ by way of The Qur’an.
Then ask them:
‘Will a blind person be like one who can see?’
Not at all!
Will you, then, not think it over and come to believe?’

06:51
And warn - through this Qur’an - those who have apprehension of being gathered before their Rabb - The Lord during the Time of Final Judgment,
that they will
neither have anyone to help them,
nor anyone to intercede for them apart from HIM.
So they may learn to guard themselves against Allah’s disobedience.

06:52
And do not turn away those who call upon their Rabb - The Lord by the morning and the
evening, seeking HIS Pleasure all the time.
Anyway you are not accountable or responsible for them in anything,
just as they are not accountable or responsible for you in anything.
Therefore there is no reason that you should turn them away, and
then – in that case - you will be of the unjust.

06:53
This is how WE test some people by means of other people so that they would ask:
‘Are these the ones who have been favored by Allah from among us?’
Is it, not Allah WHO Knows best the grateful by being believers and thus deserves HIS Favors?

06:54
And when those who believe in OUR Messages come to you, then greet them as:
‘Peace be upon you!
Your Rabb - The Lord has prescribed it for HIMSELF to be Merciful,
so whoever of you does a bad deed on being overwhelmed by emotion,
but thereafter repents and reforms his attitude and conduct,
then, surely, HE will be All-Forgiving and All-Compassionate to the repentant.

06:55
And, thus, WE explain in detail OUR Messages in The Qur’an.
WE do so that the way of the disbelieving criminals may be exposed and become distinct
from that of the believers.

06:56
Tell them:
‘I am forbidden to submit in worship and awe to those entities on whom you call upon apart from Allah.’
And also tell them:

‘I am not going to follow your whims by worshiping them,
for if I ever did, then, I would indeed be going far astray from the Divine Guidance,
and, hence, I would not be of those who are guided aright.’

06:57
Tell them:
‘I am standing upon Clear Evidence from my Rabb - The Lord - The Qur’an, whereas you are belying it.
But what you mockingly ask to be hastened - the punishment - is not within my power to hasten.
The decision for that is for Allah alone.
HE always pronounces the Truth.
And HE alone is the Best of those who decide.’

06:58
Finally, tell them:
‘If what you mockingly ask – the punishment - to be hastened were within my power to hasten, all matters between me and you would have certainly been decided – and you would have already been destroyed.
For Allah is Well-Aware of those who are unfair’ in their attitude and when to punish them.

06:59
And with HIM are the keys of the realm beyond human perception.
No one has knowledge about them but HIM.
And HE Knows precisely whatever is in the land and in the sea.
And not a single leaf falls from a tree without HIM Knowing it,
and not a single seed is lodged in the darkness of the earth without HIM Knowing it,
and not anything fresh and ripe or withered and seared, without HIM Knowing it -
and it is recorded in the Clear Book.

06:60
And it is HE WHO temporarily takes you in death at the night time during your sleep,
and HE Knows all about what you may have done during the day time,
then HE resurrects you from sleep in it the next day, in order that the term of your life can be completed.
Then to HIM will be your return upon Resurrection,
when HE will apprise you of what you used to do,
and call you to account for it.

06:61
And HE is All-Dominant over HIS servants,
and HE assigns angel watchers over you,
until when the death comes upon any of you,
Our angel envoys take him - his soul,
and they never falter in their task.

06:62
Then they are restored to Allah - their True Master, at the Time of Final Judgment so that HE might requite them.
Indeed, it is in HIS Power to judge -
and, HE is the Most Swift of those who take accounts.

06:63
Ask them – the disbelieving audience:
‘Who is The One WHO can rescue you from the hardships of the land and the sea?
And to WHOM you call upon – humbly and in secret, saying:
‘If only HE rescued us from this hardship, we shall definitely be of the ever-grateful’ by becoming believers.

06:64
Say to them:
‘Allah is the One WHO salvages you from this hardship as well as from every other
affliction,
even then you ascribe entities to HIM.’

06:65
Tell them:
Allah – it is HE WHO is All-Powerful to let loose upon you punishment -
- either from the heaven above you,
or from the earth under your feet,
or to confound you with conflicting sects and divisions among you,
or to make some of you experience the violence of the other.
See how distinctly WE explain the Signs of OUR Power so that they will understand the truth.

06:66
And yet your people are belying and denying it – The Qur’an - though it is The Divine
Truth.
Tell them:
‘I am not responsible for you’ to take you to Allah as believers -
I am only a warner, and I leave your affairs to HIM.

06:67
‘For every pronouncement, a time is fixed,
and you will soon realize’ the truthful reality of it!

06:68
And whenever you see them arguing ridiculously about OUR Messages in The Qur’an,
you must withdraw from them immediately until they cease ridiculing and enter into some
other discourse.
And in case the Satan should make you forget this directive,
then do not sit with such unfair people any longer as soon as you remember this.

06:69
And there is no responsibility on the devout of their attitude,
but reminding them,
so that they may gain an awareness of Allah’s Truth - The Qur’an - and refrain from ridiculing Our Messages.

06:70
However, you must ignore those who make a diversion and mockery of their own religion as the life of this world has deluded them.
But keep reminding them too with this Qur’an lest a person be doomed for what he has earned by way of making a mockery of his own religion,

for he will then neither find any friend, nor an advocate to ward off the Divine Wrath and Punishment, apart from Allah -
and even if he were to offer every kind of ransom to ward off the Divine Wrath and Punishment, it will not be accepted from him.
They are those who will be doomed by what they have earned by way of making a mockery of their and your religion.
For them will be a drink of scalding water, and a terrible punishment - for their willfully and persistently denying the truth.

06:71
Say to them:
‘Are we to call upon entities of your worship apart from Allah - that can neither benefit us
nor harm us?
Are we thus to turn back on our heels to idolatry and polytheism after Allah has guided us
to Islam?’
If we were ever to do so, we would be like those seduced by Satans,
leaving them in the land bewildered.
He has friends who call him for the guidance, saying:
‘Come to us!’
Say to them:
‘Indeed, Allah’s Guidance – Islam - this is the True Guidance.
And we have been commanded to submit ourselves to Rabb - The Lord of all existence’ in worship, awe, and piety.

06:72
And that:
‘Establish the Salat/Prayers, and
be ever mindful of HIM,
for HE is The One before WHOM you are going to be gathered and stand accountable.

06:73
And it is HE WHO created the celestial realm and the terrestrial world in truth and for a purpose.
And, The Time HE will Command:
‘Be!’
Then, it will come to be.
HIS Command will be the Truth.
And to HIM will belong the absolute power at The Time when the Trumpet will be sounded.
HE is the Knower of the unknown to human senses and perception as well as the known.
And HE is All-Wise in HIS Command and All-Aware of the consequences.

06:74
And it happened once when Abraham spoke to his father, Azar:
‘Why do you take idols for worshipful entities?
I certainly see you, O my father, and your people grossly misguided and making an obvious mistake.’

06:75
And, thus, WE were giving Abraham an insight into the visible and the invisible wonders of the celestial realm and the terrestrial world,
so that he could be of those convinced that worshiping the idols was false.

06:76
As the night had overshadowed him, he looked up and saw a bright star, and he remarked
- loud enough to enable people around him to hear:
Could this be my rabb/lord!?
But when it set, he said:
‘I do not like those for worship that set.’

06:77
Then, when he saw on another night the moon rising, all aglow, he observed aloud:
‘Could this be my rabb/lord!?’
This is bigger than the star.
However, even as it set, he said:
‘Unless my Rabb - The Lord guided me aright, I shall certainly be of those who go astray’
from the Right Path.

06:78
Then, when he saw the sun rising, all resplendent, he remarked yet again:
‘Could this be my rabb/lord!?
This is bigger of the two – the star and the moon.’
But as it also set, he considered it a right occasion to put across the message of Allah’s Unshared Unity to his people and said:
‘O My Community People!
Now I am truly free of your ascribing entities to Allah.

06:79
Then Abraham reassured himself by declaring:
‘Truly, as haneef, I have set my face in worship toward The One –
The One WHO created the celestial realm and the terrestrial world.
And I am certainly not of those who ascribe entities to Allah.’

06:80
But his people began to argue with him.
He counter argued and told them:
‘Are you arguing with me about Allah while HE has guided me already?
And I do not fear the infliction that you threaten me with that the entities you ascribe to
HIM may inflict on me.
Nothing can happen to me except what and when my Rabb - The Lord intends something.
My Rabb - The Lord encompasses all things within HIS Knowledge.
So will you not reconsider’ and take heed?

06:81
‘And how can I fear those entities you ascribe to HIM while you do not fear ascribing those
entities to Allah for which HE has sent down no authorization to you’ to do so?
So which of these two groups - believers vs disbelievers - has more entitlement to security
and protection from Allah’s Wrath and Punishment, if you know?

06:82
When they could not answer, Abraham said:
‘Those who believe and do not dress up their belief with disbelief,
it is they for whom is the security and protection from Allah’s Wrath and Punishment,
and it is they who are guided aright.’

06:83
And that was the prudent of conveying OUR Argument which WE conveyed to Abraham
to use against his people.
WE elevate in degree of wisdom and Divine Reward whoever WE want.
Surely, your Rabb - The Lord is Full of Wisdom in inspiring Abraham and others with clear arguments, and HE is Full of Knowledge.

06:84
And WE granted him – Abraham – a second son Isaac, and a grandson Jacob,
and WE guided each one of them as WE had guided Noah before them.
And of his descendants, WE guided
- David, and
- his son Solomon, and
Job, and
Joseph son of Jacob, and
Moses, and
- his brother Aaron.
And, that is how WE reward those who seek excellence in righteousness and virtue.

06:85
Also among his descendants were:
- Zachariah, and
- his son John the Baptist, and
Jesus son of Mary and a cousin of John the Baptist, and
Elias -
each of them was of the upright and virtuous.

06:86
As were:
Ishmael – the firstborn of Abraham, and
Elisha, and
Jonah, and
Lot – a nephew of Abraham.
WE favored each of them over everyone else in the World.

06:87
Likewise, WE also favored some among their
forefathers, and
descendants, and
brethren –
WE chose them, and
WE guided them all along the Right Path.

06:88
That is Allah’s Guidance.
HE guides with it to whoever wants to be guided from among HIS servants.
But if they had ascribed other entities to HIM, all good they used to do would have gone waste.

06:89
Those were the ones to whom WE granted

the Scripture, and
the wisdom, and
the Prophethood.
Now if these people disbelieve it – it makes no difference to US,
as WE have already entrusted it to another people who will not disbelieve.

06:90
They are the ones whom Allah had guided aright.
So follow them in guidance.
And tell them:
‘I am not asking you for any compensation for all of this advocacy and The Qur’an.
This – The Qur’an - is only a Reminder for the humankind.’

06:91
And they have not perceived the Exalted Status of Allah with a perception entitled to HIM when they remark:
‘Allah never revealed anything to any human being.’
So ask them:
‘Who, then, revealed the Scripture which Moses brought – as a light and a source of
guidance for the people?
But you treat it as an odd collection of papers,
showing some of it,
but holding back most of it,
though, through it, you were taught what you did not know before, nor did your forefathers’ know?
Say to them:
‘Allah’ revealed it!
And if they do not say so,
then leave them to play around in their vain discourse.

06:92
And this – The Qur’an - is yet another and last Divine Book:
that WE have sent it down,
is blessed and full of blessings,
affirming the earlier revelations,
so that you may warn people of the Mother of all Cities - and all those living around it – i.e., the rest of lands.
And those who believe in the Hereafter and its Correlative will also believe in it – The Qur’an,
and they are ever steadfast in their Salat/Prayers.

06:93
Who could be more sinful than the one who slanders Allah of falsehood?
Or claims:
‘It has been revealed on to me’ while no such revelation came on to him,
or the one who claims:
‘I can reveal the like of what has been revealed on to Muhammad by Allah.’
If only you could see these unfair people in their throes of death with the Angels of death,
stretching out their hands, saying in stern censure:
‘Yield up your souls to us!
Now you will be rewarded with punishment of degradation for

alleging falsehood against Allah, and
rejecting arrogantly HIS Messages.’

06:94
Allah will speak at the Time of Resurrection:
‘And now you have come to US by yourself,
just as WE created you the first time at birth,
leaving behind all that WE had granted you in the world.
But what is the matter with you and those entities that
you worshiped apart from US, and
considered them your intercessors, and
whom you claimed to be associates in OUR Divinity?!
The bond between you and them has now been severed,
and those you once claimed to be Allah’s associates and intercessors have abandoned you.’

06:95
Indeed, it is Allah WHO splits open and sprouts the grain-seed and the fruit-kernel.
HE brings forth the living from the dead and brings forth the dead from the living.
This is Allah!
So where then are you being drifted away from acknowledging HIS Unique Creative Power?!

06:96
HE is the breaker of the dawn from the darkness of the nighttime.
And HE made
the night time for resting, and
the sun and the moon as measures of time.
Such is the disposition of Allah - the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing.

06:97
And it is HE WHO made for you the stars to guide your way through the darkness of the land and the sea.
WE have indeed detailed OUR Wondrous Signs - such as these - for a people who want to
know’ OUR Unique Creative Power.

06:98
And it is HE WHO brought you all into being from a single soul, and
then appointed for each one of you a place of habitation in this life and a resting place after this life.
WE have detailed OUR Wondrous Signs - such as these - for a people who want to
understand’ OUR Unique Creative Power.

06:99
And it is HE WHO sends down rainwater from the sky clouds, thereby bringing out buds
and vegetation of every kind.
And, then, WE bring out
green foliage/greenery, and
thick-clustered grain, and
date palm trees with bunches of dates hanging down near at hand, and
grapevines, and
- the olive trees, and

the pomegranates as well,
so alike yet so unlike in variety, color, form, taste, and smell.
Look upon their fruits - how they begin to fruit on the trees, and as they ripen to be plucked.
Indeed, in all these are OUR Wondrous Signs for a people who want to believe’ in OUR Unique Creative Power.

06:100
And yet they ascribe the jinn in worship as partners to Allah, though HE created them,
and they ascribe to HIM sons and daughters, without any knowledge.
All Glory be to HIM!
Highly Exalted is HE – far above what they ascribe to HIM as sons and daughters.

06:101
Allah is the Marvelous Creator of the celestial realm and the terrestrial world without a precedent.
How could HE have a child/son when HE has no female companion?
And HE created everything, and
HE has full knowledge of everything.

06:102
This is Allah!
Your Rabb - The Lord.
There is no entity of worship except HIM -
Creator of everything.
So submit to HIM in worship, awe, and piety,
for it is HE WHO is the Guardian of everything.

06:103
No mortal power of vision can ever encompass HIM as HE is beyond all visual perception.
But HE encompasses all visions.
And HE Knows all for HE is All-Aware.

06:104
Say O The Prophet:
The Divine Enlightenments have now come to you from your Rabb - The Lord.
So whoever sees these as the Divine Truth does so for the good of oneself,
and whoever turns blind and thus goes astray does so for the loss of oneself.
And, I am not a guardian over you’ for your belief and deeds - I am only a warner.

06:105
And, thus, WE set out, in varied ways, OUR Messages in The Qur’an so that conclusive evidence is established over them.
And they say:
‘You have read it out convincingly’ to us,
and, that, WE make it clear to people who want to understand that it is The Truth from Allah.

06:106
O The Prophet!
Follow diligently what is being revealed on to you from your Rabb - The Lord.
There is no entity of worship apart from HIM,
and turn aside from the polytheists who mock.

06:107
And if it would have been Allah’s Will, they would not have ever taken to polytheism.
But WE have neither assigned you - O The Prophet - as a care-taker over them,
nor you are a guardian over them to coerce them to the Faith of Islam.

06:108
And do not insult those of their entities for worship whom they call upon apart from Allah,
lest they begin to insult Allah out of malice, without having any knowledge.
So in this way, WE have made the deeds and rites of every religious community seem appropriate to itself.
But in the end, they are all going back to their Rabb - The Lord,
when HE will apprise them of what they had been doing in relation to their religion, its rites, and call them to account for it.

06:109
And they solemnly swear by Allah:
‘If a miracle of the kind they desire were to come to them, then they will certainly believe.’
Tell these who thus sneer:
‘The Miracles are with Allah’ alone.
HE sends them down as and when HE Wills - for I am only a warner.
And how do you know – O The Faithful - even if it - a miracle - were to come to them, they would still not believe.

06:110
In that case too, WE will turn their hearts and their eyes away from OUR Guidance,
just as WE did when they did not believe them in the very first instance,
and WE will leave them to wander blindly in their misguidance.

06:111
And
even if WE were to send down the angels upon them, and
even if the dead were to speak to them from their graves telling them that Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah, and
even if WE were to gather everything together before their very eyes, testifying to the truthfulness of your Mission,
they would still not have believed unless Allah wanted it to be so,
but most of them are ignorant of the fact that this is the Final Truth from Allah.

06:112
And what you are facing O The Prophet is nothing new.
In fact, that is how WE made enemies and hostile opposition for every Prophet -
from among the Satans of the humans and the jinn,
enticing one another with flowery discourse to delude them.
But if your Rabb - The Lord had so desired, then they would never be able to do so.
So leave them to what they fabricate of disbelief and delusion.

06:113
WE did it so that the sincerity of the seekers of truth should get manifested.
And it is so that the hearts of those who disbelieve in the Hereafter may incline towards it – the satanic delusion –

and that they may find it pleasing,
and that they may acquire whatever they are bent on acquiring of sinful deeds.

06:114
Say:
What!
‘Should I then seek the source of law other than Allah, when HE is The One WHO has sent down this Book - The Qur’an – on to you, fully and distinctly explained?
As for those to whom WE have already given the Scripture before you know that it has been certainly revealed by your Rabb - The Lord in truth.
So never be of those who waver and doubt it.’

06:115
And the Word of your Rabb - The Lord in The Qur’an regarding these people has come perfect in truthfulness and justice.
There is no changing HIS Words.
And HE is All-Listening to what is said, and All-Knowing how you respond to HIS Word.

06:116
And if you were to follow the majority of people on the earth in matters of faith and its oracles,
then they will mislead you from the Path of Allah -
for they follow nothing but conjectures when they argue with you,
and they merely fantasize and fabricate falsehood.

06:117
Indeed, it is only your Rabb - The Lord WHO Knows best the one who strays from HIS Path,
as HE also Knows best those who are guided aright.

06:118
So consume only of the flesh of immolated livestock from that over which the Blessed Name of Allah has been pronounced,
if you truly believe in HIS Commands.

06:119
And why should you not consume of that flesh of immolated livestock over which the
Blessed Name of Allah has been pronounced
when HE has already explained for you in detail what is lawful to consume and what is not,
unless you are constrained to do so out of desperation and by dire necessity?
But, indeed, many people mislead others into following their whims without knowledge.
Surely, your Rabb - The Lord – HE is Best Aware of those who deliberately overstep the limits by moving from the lawful to the unlawful.

06:120
Abstain from visible of sin as well as invisible of it.
Indeed, those who thus indulge in sin will be duly paid back for what they do.

06:121
And, therefore, do not consume any of that flesh of immolated livestock over which the
Blessed Name of Allah has not been pronounced -
for that would indeed be an act of disobedience/offence!

Certainly the Satan entices their friends among people to argue with you in deeming unlawful as lawful.
And, if you follow them, then you would surely be among those who ascribe others in divinity to Allah.

06:122
And consider:
Is someone who was dead in faith through disbelief and then whom WE brought back to life
through Guidance, and
gave him the Light of The Qur’an that guides his steps among people with knowledge of distinguishing truth from falsehood,
be like someone who is lost in utter darkness of disbelief from which he can never come out?
Thus it is: to the disbelievers, their conduct has been made to appear appealing.

06:123
Likewise, WE have placed in every land, its greatest of the sinners as its leaders to plot and
conspire therein against the believers,
but they conspire against no one but themselves, though they do not realize it.

06:124
And every time a Message of The Qur’an is presented to them they say:
‘We will not believe in it until we are given something similar to what Allah’s former
Messengers were given.’
Allah Knows best where to direct HIS Messages and whom to entrust the Prophethood.
A degradation from Allah will overwhelm these criminals for denying the Qur’anic Messages,
and they will be severely punished for their conspiring against The Prophet and his followers.

06:125
Thus, for whoever it is Allah’s Will to guide, HE opens his heart in submission to HIM -
Islam,
and for whoever it is HIS Will to leave astray, HE makes his heart become tight and constricted as if he were climbing up to the sky.
That is how Allah casts defilement of evil - views, and deeds - upon those who would not believe.

06:126
And this is the Path of your Rabb - The Lord – Straight!
WE have explained OUR Messages to a people who contemplate.

06:127
For them will be the Realm of Peace with their Rabb - The Lord.
And, HE will be their Protector as a reward for what they used to do.

06:128
And, the Time when HE will gather everyone together.
And will thus address:
‘O assembly of the jinn!
You have seduced a good many of humankind.’

Then their companions among humankind will confess and say:
‘O Our Rabb - The Lord!
Some of us did benefit from each other - serving each other’s selfish ends,
but now we have reached our term, the one that YOU had appointed for us.’
Thereupon Allah will speak:
‘The Fire shall be your home.
You are going to remain there forever,
except for whoever Allah Wills otherwise.’
Indeed, your Rabb - The Lord is All-Wise to make exceptions and All-Knowing for whom to make exceptions.

06:129
a. And thus WE make some of the unjust/wrongdoers among jinn and humankind befriend each other for what they earn of evil.

06:130
Then Allah will address all:
‘O assembly of the jinn and the humankind!
Did MY Messengers not come to you from among yourselves,
conveying to you MY Messages, and
warning you of your meeting at this Time?’
They will say in deep remorse:
‘We so testify, against ourselves’ that the Messengers did come,
- they conveyed YOUR Message, but we rebuked them.
But the life of comfort and enjoyment of the world deluded them.
And that is why they will be made to testify against themselves -
that they were disbelievers.

06:131
This – assigning of the Messengers - is so because your Rabb - The Lord would never destroy habitations arbitrarily,
while their inhabitants were unaware.

06:132
And every one among the jinn and humankind will be ranked according to what they have done,
for your Rabb - The Lord will never be Unaware of what they used to do of good or evil.

06:133
Your Rabb - The Lord is All-Sufficient, Full-of-Benevolence.
If it were ever HIS Will, HE can do away with you,
and make whoever HE Wills succeed you,
just as HE brought you into being from the descendants of other people.

06:134
Indeed, the promise that was made to you is bound to come true and be fulfilled.
And there is no way you can avoid it or prevent it.

06:135
Say:
‘O My Community People!
Do the way you have been doing,

I will keep doing it the way I have been doing it.
You are going to know who will have the happy outcome in the Hereafter.
Surely they - the unfair/evildoers will never be successful.’

06:136
And they dedicate to Allah a portion of the harvest and the livestock, which in fact HE has created, so they say:
‘This much is for Allah – going by their own imagination - and this much is for our entities’
of worship apart from Allah.
However, what is allocated for their entities of worship does not reach Allah,
while that which is allocated to Allah goes to support their entities of worship.
How evil what they judge for themselves!

06:137
And, likewise, their entities of worship have made the practice of slaying their own
children/infants seem appropriate to many of the polytheists,
so much so that it should destroy them, and
also confuse them in their religion and thus make them go further astray.
And if Allah had so desired, they would not be doing so.
So leave them with what they fabricate.

06:138
And they also say:
‘Such and such livestock and crops are sacrosanct,
and no one is to consume of these other than whoever we will’ – going by their imagination.
And they also say:
And again going by their imagination the backs of such and such livestock is forbidden for consumption as food like a camel as they carry loads,’
and, these are the livestock over which they do not pronounce the Sacred Name of Allah.
All these are fabrications against HIM.
HE is soon going to pay them back with severe punishment for what they fabricate against HIM.

06:139
And they also assert:
‘Whatever is in the wombs of such and such livestock - if they are born alive- is exclusively
for our males and forbidden to our females,
but if it be dead/stillborn, then all may share’ in eating its meat.
HE is soon going to pay them back with severe punishment for what they falsely assert.
Indeed, HE is All-Wise in making the lawful and the unlawful, and
HE is All-Knowing of their ascription of unlawfulness to things that are lawful.

06:140
Indeed those who slayed their own children/infants foolishly, without knowledge, incurred
huge losses.
and they made the food unlawful that Allah provided for them lawful, thus fabricating falsehood against Allah.
Indeed, they have strayed far as they have not been guided aright.

06:141
And it is HE WHO brings into being gardens and orchards, trellised and nontrellised; and
date-palms, and
crops/plants of diverse tastes, and

the olives, and
the pomegranates,
which are all alike in form, and yet all so unlike in variety.
So eat of their fruit when it fruits and ripens to be plucked;
and pay out labor wages and its due portion of charity at the time of harvesting.
And do not be wasteful.
Surely, HE has no love for the wasteful.

06:142
And of the livestock, there are some made for carrying loads and some made for providing meat.
So consume of what Allah has provided for you,
and do not follow in the footprints of Satan.
Surely, he is clear enemy to you.

06:143
Allah created eight pairs of livestock, male, and female:
of the sheep, two, and
of the goats, two.
Ask them:
Which has HE made unlawful:
the two males of the sheep and goat, or
the two females, or
what is in the wombs of two females – be they male or female?
Give me a convincing answer if you are honest in alleging that Allah has made unlawful that which you assert.

06:144
And, likewise, Allah created of the camels, two, and of the oxen, two - male and female.
Ask the idolaters:
Which has HE forbidden
either the two males, or
the two females, or
what is in the wombs of two females - be they male or female?
Were you present to witness when Allah enjoined this command on you?
Who, then, could be more unfair/wicked than the one who fabricates falsehood against Allah to mislead people, without knowledge?
Indeed, Allah never guides such unfair/wicked people.

06:145
Tell them O The Prophet:
‘I do not find anything unlawful in all the Divine Commands revealed on to me for meat to
be consumed and used its products, except it be:
already dead animals, and/or
blood which is shed, and/or
flesh of pig - surely it is unclean - or something wicked, and/or
slaughtered in the name of an entity of worship other than the Blessed Name of Allah.
Nevertheless, whoever is compelled by desperation to consume these without willfully disobeying or deliberately transgressing,
then, surely your Rabb - The Lord will be Forgiving to him for what he consumed, and
Kind for HE made dispensation for him.

06:146
And to those who had Judaised/Jews - WE made unlawful to consume
every livestock which does not have divided toes, and
the fat of the oxen and the sheep, except what their backs carry, or their intestines, or which is mingled with bones.
These restrictions WE rewarded them for their rebellion.
And, certainly, WE are Truthful in what WE have stated.

06:147
And if they still belie you - O The Prophet - regarding these dietary restrictions, then tell them:
‘While your Rabb - The Lord is Full of Abundant Mercy, but HIS Wrath will not be averted from a people who remain guilty’ of repeated disobedience and aggression.

06:148
Those who ascribe entities of worship to Allah argue:
‘If Allah had Willed,
we would have neither ascribed other entities to HIM,
nor our forefathers would have done so,
nor we would have declared anything unlawful’ against HIS Command.
So in this way, they lie - others had also belied their respective Prophets before them until they experienced OUR Wrath.
Ask them:
‘Do you have any authoritative knowledge in support of your assertion?
If so, then bring it for us!
In fact, you follow nothing but conjunctures.
And you merely fantasize.’

06:149
Tell them:
As opposed to what you argue, ‘Allah has for you the perfect and most convincing argument.
And if HE had wanted, HE would indeed have guided you all.’

06:150
Tell them:
‘Bring your witnesses to testify that Allah has made this and this unlawful’ – as you are claiming.
Then even if they bring some witnesses to falsely testify, you should not testify with them.
And do not follow the vain whims of those who:
belie OUR Messages in The Qur’an, and
do not believe in the coming of the Hereafter, and
equate other entities in worship with their Rabb - The Lord.

06:151
Tell them:
‘Come on!
I will recite what your Rabb - The Lord has made unlawful for you – that you:
do not ascribe any entity in divinity and worship to HIM, and
be respectfully kind and dutiful towards the parents, and
do not slay your children/infants and bury your daughters alive for fear of impoverishment and destitution, for WE provide for your food and WE will likewise provide for them too, and

do not approach any obscene acts - whether in public or in private, and
do not take a life that Allah has made sacred, except in justice.
This is what HE has Commanded you in The Qur’an, so that you may understand and follow HIS Path.

06:152
Furthermore,
do not draw anywhere near the property/wealth of the orphan,
but for betterment of his interest,
until he attains his full maturity, and
give in full measure, and full weight, in justice.
WE do not burden anyone beyond his capacity to establish justice.
And whenever you speak, then be just, even though it be against a family member.
and fulfill Allah’s Covenant.
That is what HE has enjoined upon you so that you may remain mindful.

06:153
This, indeed, is MY Path – Straight.
So follow it!
And do not follow other paths opposed to it, lest you diverge from HIS Path.
This is what HE has enjoined upon you so that you may become virtuous.

06:154
Then, WE gave Moses the Book of Torah,
complete for those who seek to excel in doing good, and
explaining everything clearly, and
a source of guidance and mercy,
so that they may believe in the Meeting with their Rabb - The Lord.

06:155
And, likewise, this Qur’an is a Book:
WE have sent it down -
it is blessed and full of blessings.
So follow it!
And guard yourselves against its disobedience,
so that you may receive HIS Mercy.

06:156
WE have sent down The Qur’an, lest you have an excuse to say:
‘The Book that was sent before us was, in fact, meant only for two religious groups: the Jews and the Christians.
And, we were indeed not familiar with their religious teachings.’

06:157
Or lest you also say as an excuse that:
‘Had the Book been sent down to us, we would surely have been better guided than them’
- the Jews and the Christians.
So now a Clear Guidance has come to you from your Rabb - The Lord - The Qur’an –
and this is a source of guidance and mercy for the one who follows it.
Who, then, could be more unjust/wicked than the one who belies Allah’s Message in The Qur’an, and turns away from it?

WE are definitely going to payback those who turn away from OUR Messages in The Qur’an with a woeful punishment.
06:158
What are they waiting for anything but
seeing the Angels coming down to them, or
your Rabb - The Lord appearing in person, or
coming of some Signs from your Rabb - The Lord?
The Time when certain signs start appearing from your Rabb - The Lord,
then repentance and embracing of faith will not be of any benefit to the one
who did not have the faith before, or
who did not earn some good through one’s deeds of faith.
Tell them:
‘You just wait for one of these things to happen!
Surely, WE too are waiting’ for it.
06:159
As for those who divide the unity of their religion and turn it into different sects,
you must have nothing to do with them.
Their case will go to Allah.
Then HE is going to apprise them about what they used to do while dividing and creating sects within their religion and award them accordingly.

06:160
Whoever will come with one deed of righteousness will have ten equal to it,
and whoever will come with an evil deed will only be paid back the equal of it -
and no one will be treated unfairly.

06:161
Tell them:
‘Indeed, as for me, my Rabb - The Lord has guided me on to a Path – Straight,
the upright religion, the religion of Abraham - haneef.
And he was never of those ascribing worshipful entities to Allah.’
06:162
Tell them:
‘Indeed,
my Salat/Prayers, and
my ritual sacrifice, and
my living and my life, and
my dying and my death,
are all for Allah, Rabb - The Lord of all existence.
06:163
Allah – HE has no partner!
And of this, I have been commanded.
And that I must be the first and foremost of those who submit to HIS Unshared Unity and Uniqueness.

06:164
Say:
‘Am I to seek another entity of worship as rabb/lord apart from Allah, while HE is the only
Rabb - The Lord of everything?’

And every person earns what it earns of sin only for himself.
And no bearer of a sinful burden will bear the burden of sins of another.
Then to your Rabb - The Lord is your return.
Then HE is going to apprise you over which you had been differing.’

06:165
And it is HE WHO has made you successors on the earth,
and has elevated some of you over others in positions/rank in order to test you by what HE has granted you.
Always remember that your Rabb - The Lord is Swift to punish yet,
surely, HE is also Swift in Forgiving those who repent, and Compassionate to them as well.
