44. Ad-Dukhan/The Smoky Haze

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

44:01
a. Ha. Mim.

44:02
a. By the Book of Divine Qur’an - clear in itself and clearly guiding to the truth.

44:03
a. WE sent it down during a night full of blessings.
b. Because with it WE had planned to warn people.

44:04
a. On that night every matter of wisdom was made distinct -

44:05
a. – by OUR Command.
b. Indeed, WE had decided to send OUR Messengers to these people for guidance -

44:06
a. - as a Mercy from your Rabb - The Lord to humankind.
b. Indeed, HE - HE is The All-Listening of their sayings, The All-Knowing of their actions.

44:07
a. Rabb - The Lord of the celestial realm and the terrestrial world and whatever is between them,
b. only if you were firm believers.

44:08
a. There is no entity of worship except HIM.
b. HE gives both life as well as death.
c. HE is your Rabb - The Lord and Rabb - The Lord of your forefathers.

44:09
a. Yet they are lost in their doubts.

44:10
a. Then be on the watch for the Time – The Last Hour - when the sky will exhale visible smoky haze -

44:11
a. – covering all people, causing them to cry out:
b. ‘This is an awful punishment!’

44:12
a. ‘O Our Rabb - The Lord!
b. Take this punishment away from us,
c. for sure we are true believers.’

44:13
a. But how can this sudden profession of faith help them in avoiding punishment?
b. When a Messenger – Muhammad ibn Abdallah - had already come to them explaining things clearly.

44:14
a. Even then they turn their backs on him – The Prophet - uttering slanderous remarks:
b. ‘He is being taught by someone!
c. Or he is just insane!

44:15
a. And, even if WE were to postpone the punishment for a little while,
b. you are surely going to revert to disbelief.

44:16
a. And do not forget the Time of Final Judgment when WE will seize them with the mightiest grip.
b. Indeed, WE are going to wreak vengeance!

44:17
a. And, indeed, WE had tried the People of Pharaoh before them,
b. when an honorable Messenger - Moses – was assigned to them.

44:18
a. Saying:
b. ‘Release the servants of Allah to me,
c. for I am a trustworthy Messenger - assigned to you’ by Allah.

44:19
a. ‘And, do not transgress against Allah.
b. Indeed, I have come to you with a clear authority’ from HIM.
c. But they threatened to stone him.

44:20
a. ‘Surely I seek refuge with my Rabb - The Lord and your Rabb - The Lord too,
b. lest you may stone me.’

44:21
a. So Moses appealed:
b. ‘But if you do not believe me - my mission and my message –
c. then, just leave me alone’ and do not interfere in my mission/stone me.

44:22
a. Then he made a plea to his Rabb - The Lord, saying:
b. ‘Indeed, they are a criminal people’ – guilty of disbelief and a life full of sin.
c. Take me in YOUR Care and Protection.

44:23
a. So came the Command:
b. ‘Set out with MY servants by night,
c. for you will surely be chased’ by Pharaoh’s army.

44:24
a. ‘And, once you have crossed it, leave the parted sea behind you as it is - still and calm,
b. for sure they are an army to be drowned.’

44:25
a. So they were drowned:
b. How many of gardens and springs did they leave behind!?

44:26
a. And how many fields of grain and splendid dwellings they had to leave!?

44:27
a. And how many comforts of life and richness they used to enjoy … they had to leave!?

44:28
a. So it was!
b. And, then, WE left them for another people to inherit it.

44:29
a. And neither the celestial realm nor the terrestrial world wept for them on their drowning,
b. nor were they allowed any respite to repent and seek forgiveness.

44:30
a. And, indeed, WE salvaged Descendants of Jacob from the humiliating persecution …..

44:31
a. …. inflicted by Pharaoh.
b. Surely he was a tyrant and of the excessively wicked.

44:32
a. Moreover, WE deliberately chose them above other people of their time.

44:33
a. And WE brought them many signs in which that were an obvious ordeal for Pharaoh.

44:34
a. But now they assert:

44:35
a. ‘There is nothing beyond our one and only death.
b. We are certainly never going to be resurrected’ after death to another dimension of existence.

44:36
a. ‘Then bring back to us our forefathers and let them testify that there is the Realm of Hereafter,
b. if you are truthful.’

44:37
a. ‘Are they better in wealth and power or were the People of Tubba` or even those before them?
b. WE destroyed them all,
c. for they were, indeed, criminals.’

44:38
a. And WE have not created the celestial realm and the terrestrial world and whatever is between them to play around - without a purpose.

44:39
a. WE have not created them except for a purpose,
b. but most of them do not comprehend that.

44:40
a. Surely, the Time of Distinction is the appointed time for all of them -

44:41
a. – it is going to be a Time when a friend will not be able help his friend in any way,
b. nor when anyone will be helped -

44:42
a. - except for the one upon whom Allah would have conferred Mercy.
b. Indeed, HE - HE is The Almighty, The Infinitely Compassionate.

44:43
a. Surely, the Zaqqum Tree

44:44
a. - will be the food of the sinful in Hell.

44:45
a. It will be like hot molten metal,
b. boiling in their bellies,

44:46
a. like the seething liquid.

44:47
a. A voice will command:
b. O angel guards of Hell!
c. ‘Seize him!
d. And hurl him into the depths of the Blazing Fire!’

44:48
a. ‘Then pour over his head the punishment of the boiling liquid.’

44:49
a. ‘Taste this now!
b. O you - you who considered yourself so powerful, so honorable’ in worldly life!

44:50
a. ‘Surely, this punishment you are receiving now is what you used to doubt’ and laugh at before.

44:51
a. Whereas the devout will, for sure, be at a place of peace and tranquility……...

44:52
a. …… amidst gardens and springs of Paradise...

44:53
a. … dressed in fine silk and rich brocade;
b. seated facing one another.

44:54
a. That is how it will be!
b. And WE will make their wedding pairs with celestial companions, with dark, wide eyes.

44:55
a. Therein they can call for every kind of fruit resting in peace and tranquility.

44:56
a. They will never taste death therein except for having tasted the one worldly death,
b. and HE will have saved them from the punishment of the Blazing Fire.

44:57
a. That will be a favor from your Rabb - The Lord!
b. And that will be the great triumph!

44:58
a. O The Prophet!
b. In order to attain the great triumph, WE have made it – The Qur’an - easy to comprehend by revealing it in your own language of Arabic,
c. so that they may reflect on its contents and live their lives in accordance with its demands and imperatives.

44:59
a. So wait and keep watch, O The Prophet, how they react to the Qur’anic Teachings and your advocacy,
b. for they too will be waiting and watching to see how your Mission proceeds.
