47. Muhammad/The Prophet Muhammad

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

47:01
a. Those who disbelieve and obstruct others from pursuing the Path of Allah,
b. HE will let all of their good deeds go waste,
c. so they will find no reward for these in the realm of the Hereafter.

47:02
a. While HE will erase impieties and sinful trespasses of those who:
- believe, and
- practice righteousness, and
- believe in what has been sent on to Muhammad The Prophet - The Qur’an, and
- that it is the Truth from their Rabb - The Lord, and
b. HE will absolve them of their evil deeds and also set aright their hearts and improve their
spiritual situation.

47:03
a. That is so because those who disbelieve they follow the falsehood,
b. while those who believe they follow The Truth - The Qur’an - from their Rabb - The Lord.
c. That is how Allah gives people precepts of wisdom by similitudes of themselves.

47:04
a. Whenever you encounter in the battlefield those who disbelieve, then strike their necks,
until, when you have overpowered them, then hold them firmly as prisoners of war.
b. Thereafter, you can either free them graciously or hold them to ransom against payment or in exchange of Muslim captives, until the battle lays down its burdens.
c. That is the rule!
d. Yet if Allah so willed, HE alone would have defended HIMSELF against them,
e. but HE allows fighting so that some of you may be tested by means of others in the
battlefield.
f. As for those who would be slain in the Cause of Allah will never find any of their good
deeds going waste.

47:05
a. HE will guide them in this world those who were not slain, and
b. improve their condition in the Hereafter who were slain.

47:06
a. And will admit them in to the Paradise,
b. which HE has already made known to them.

47:07
a. O The Faithful!
b. If you will support Allah by participating in the effort to exalt HIS Religion and HIS Messenger,
c. HE will surely support you against your enemies, and make your foothold firm in the service of HIS Cause.

47:08
a. However, those who disbelieve, for them will be destruction,
b. and all of their good deeds will go waste.

47:09
a. This will be so as they were averse to what Allah had sent down - The Qur’an.
b. Therefore, HE will let all of their good deeds go waste.

47:10
a. Do they not travel around the world and note from archaeological remains as to how was the fate of those who disobeyed OUR Messages before them?
b. Allah destroyed them totally!
c. And a similar fate awaits the disbelievers - regardless of time and space.

47:11
a. This is because Allah is the Protector of those who believe,
b. while the disbelievers have no protector at all.

47:12
a. Indeed, Allah will admit those who believe and practice righteousness into Paradise beneath which rivers/streams flow.
b. As for those who disbelieve - enjoying themselves in their worldly vain desires and eating as the cattle do without giving any thought to the realm of the Hereafter, the Fire will be their dwelling place.

47:13
a. How many habitations WE have destroyed for their disobedience which were stronger in
power than your City of Makkah - which drove you out O The Prophet!
b. And there was no one to help them against OUR Might.

47:14
a. So would the one who is a believer and holds on firmly to a Clear Guidance from his Rabb - The Lord – The Qur’an, be the like of someone else for whom his evil deeds are made to appear alluring to him -
b. and they follow their own vain whims and lusts?
c. Not indeed!

47:15
a. The semblance of the Paradise, promised to the devout is like a garden with
- rivers/streams of water that never get stale, and
- rivers/streams of milk that never lose its flavor, and

- rivers/streams of wine that are pure bliss to those who drink, and
- rivers/streams of honey, pure and serene.
b. They will also have fruits of every kind and flavor in them, as well as forgiveness from
their Rabb - The Lord.
c. Would they ever be like someone abiding eternally in the Fire, and given scalding liquid to drink, ripping into their intestines?
d. No! Never!

47:16
a. O The Prophet!
b. And some of them - the hypocrites - listen to you, but as they leave you, they sneer at those who have been given the knowledge among the Companions of the Prophet:
c. ‘What did he say’ just now?
d. These are the ones on whose hearts Allah has set a seal as they always pursue their vain
whims and lusts.

47:17
a. While those who are guided aright - HE increases them in guidance,
b. and accords them their piety and righteousness.

47:18
a. So are they looking for anything but The Last Hour, which will come upon them suddenly?
b. But some of its signs are already here.
c. And when it actually comes upon them, how will then their realization and seeking repentance benefit them?

47:19
a. O The Prophet!
b. So know that there is no worshipful entity except Allah,
c. and seek forgiveness for your oversights,
d. as well as for the faults and sinful trespasses of the believing males and the believing females.
e. And Allah knows well how you move about in pursuit of your business and how you dwell
in your homes.

47:20
a. And those who have apparently believed say:
b. ‘If only a Surah asking us to fight were sent down,’ we will be the first to fight and fight
valiantly.
c. Yet when a Surah is sent down, categorical and unambiguous, and fighting is mentioned
in it,
d. you can notice those in whose hearts is sickness of hypocrisy looking at you – O The Prophet - with the look of a person fainting from fear of death.
e. But it would have been more appropriate for them if they listened to Allah as HIS Prophet.

47:21
a. The right attitude for them was to obey Allah and HIS Prophet and say the right words.
b. And when the matter relating to preparations for fighting has been decided,
c. then, if they had been true to the Cause of Allah, it would have been better for them.

47:22
a. So would you then, if you were to turn away and shun faith, spread disorder in the land, and
b. sever your family ties and fight with your own flesh and blood?
47:23
a. Such are the ones whom Allah has cursed, and
b. thus making them deaf of hearing the truth and blinding their sight to follow the path of guidance.
47:24
a. Will they not, then, contemplate The Qur’an to learn and seek guidance,
b. or are there locks on their hearts?
47:25
a. Indeed, those who turn back and renounce their faith as apostates even after The Guidance
of The Qur’an has become clear to them -
b. it was Satan who contrived it for them,
c. yet HE spared them.
47:26
a. That is so because they said to those who disliked what Allah has sent down by way of The Qur’an:
b. ‘We will follow you only in part of the matter.’
c. But Allah knows their secrets.
47:27
a. So how will it be when the angels take them in death,
b. while striking their faces and their backs?
47:28
a. That is because they had followed what was displeasing to Allah,
b. and they were averse to everything which pleased HIM.
c. Thus, HE let their good deeds go waste.
47:29
a. Or do those in whose hearts is sickness of hypocrisy reckon that Allah will never expose their malice against The Prophet and the believers?
47:30
a. And if WE had wanted, WE could indeed have shown all of them to you, O The Prophet,
and you would indeed have recognized them by their marks/looks.
b. However, you can even recognize them by the tone of their devious speech, or from the way they twist their words.
c. And Allah knows whatever you are doing.
47:31
a. And, indeed, WE are going to test you until WE know those among you who truly strive in OUR Cause and remain firm/patient.
b. And WE are also going to test the sincerity of your assertions.
47:32
a. Indeed, those who disbelieve and obstruct others from the Path of Allah,
b. and oppose The Messenger Muhammad even after the guidance has been made clear to them-

c. they will not harm the Cause of Allah in any way,
d. while HE will surely make all of their good deeds go waste.

47:33
a. O The Faithful!
b. Obey Allah!
c. And obey the Messenger Muhammad!
d. And do not let any of your own good deeds go waste by acts of disobedience to Allah and HIS Messenger.

47:34
a. Indeed, those who disbelieve and obstruct others from the Path of Allah,
b. and then die while being disbelievers -
c. Allah will never forgive them.

47:35
a. Therefore, do not falter and ask for peace for you are the prevailing force as Allah is with you - helping and assisting.
b. And HE will never diminish the reward of your good deeds.

47:36
a. Indeed, the life of this world is no more than a mere play, a pastime.
b. But if you believe and practice righteousness, HE will grant you your rewards in full, and
c. will not ask you to give up all your worldly wealth and possessions.

47:37
a. Were HE to ask you for all of your worldly wealth and possessions and insisted upon it, then you would be grudging,
b. and HE would expose all your malice of hypocrisy.

47:38
a. There you are!
b. These people!
c. You are being called upon to spend a little of your wealth and possessions in the Cause of
Allah.
d. Yet some of you will be grudging and withholding in miserliness.
e. But whoever will be grudging and withholding in miserliness, in fact withholds against oneself.
f. For Allah is Rich and Above-All-Need, whereas it is you who are the needy and always in need of HIS Bounty.
g. And if you will still turn away from HIS Obedience, then HE will replace you with another people.
Then they will not be the like of you in turning away from HIS Obedience.
