48. Al-Fat’h/The Victory

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

48:01
a. O The Prophet!
b. Indeed, WE have granted you a victory, an outstanding victory.

48:02
a. So that Allah may save you from blames, earlier and subsequent, if any, and
b. complete HIS Favors upon you, and
c. guide you along the Right Path.

48:03
a. Furthermore, Allah may help you with a strong and unparalleled help.

48:04
a. It is HE WHO sent down the spirit of tranquility and assurance onto the hearts of the believers,
b. so they may increase in faith over and above their present level of faith.
c. And to Allah belong the forces of the celestial realm and the terrestrial world,
d. and Allah is All-Knowing of HIS creatures, All-Wise in HIS actions -

48:05
a. so that HE may admit the believing males and believing females into Paradise through which rivers/streams flow to remain therein forever,
b. and that HE may absolve them of their impieties and sinful trespasses.
c. And that will be a great success with Allah.

48:06
a. And HE punishes the hypocrite males and the hypocrite females alike, and
b. the idolatrous males and the idolatrous females -
c. for they think evil notions about Allah.
d. Their evil is going to come back to them by way of abasement and punishment.
e. Allah’s Wrath is upon them, and
f. HE has cursed them,
g. and has prepared Hell for them -
h. and this is going to be a miserable destination!

48:07
a. And to Allah belong the forces of the celestial realm and the terrestrial world,
b. and Allah is always the Almighty, the All- Wise in HIS actions.

48:08
a. O The Prophet!
b. Indeed, WE have assigned you
- to be a witness to the truth, and
- a Herald of good news for those who follow you, and
- a Warner against the consequences of not following you.

48:09
a. So that all of you believe in Allah and HIS Messenger Muhammad, and
b. you revere HIM and honor HIM and glorify HIM by morning and by evening.

48:10
a. Those who pledge allegiance to you O The Prophet are, in fact, pledging allegiance to Allah.
b. Allah’s Hand is over their hands!
c. Thereafter whoever violates his pledge, in fact, violates it against oneself - to one’s own loss/harm,
d. while whoever fulfills what he has pledged to Allah, HE will, then, give him an awesome
reward.

48:11
a. Those of the desert nomads who had purposely stayed behind will now tell you by way of an excuse:
b. O The Prophet!
c. ‘We could not accompany you as we were preoccupied with our chattels and our families.
d. So seek Allah’s forgiveness for us’ for our failure to accompany you.
e. But they are saying something with their tongues what is not in their hearts.
f. So tell them:
g. ‘Whether it is Allah’s Will to do you harm or it is HIS Will to do you good, who can intervene for you?
h. In fact, Allah is Fully-Aware of whatever you intend, declare and do.’

48:12
a. But the truth is not what you say –
b. in fact you reckoned that The Messenger and the believers would never survive the pilgrimage and return to their families,
c. and this notion seemed pleasant in your hearts, while you thought such viciously evil thoughts-
d. for you are an evil people!

48:13
a. And whoever does not believe in Allah and HIS Messenger Muhammad,
b. – then, surely, WE have prepared a Blazing Fire for such disbelievers.

48:14
a. And to Allah belongs the Sovereignty over the celestial realm and the terrestrial world.
b. HE may forgive whoever HE wants and may punish whoever HE wants -
c. though Allah is always Forgiving those who repent as well as Merciful.

48:15
a. When you - believers – set out for somewhere that promises the spoils of war,
b. those who previously stayed behind will say:
c. ‘Let us go along with you.’
d. They wish to change Allah’s Word.
e. But tell them:
f. ‘You are not going to follow us;
g. this is what Allah said before’ when the Prophet set out for the journey.
h. Next they will say:
i. No!
j. ‘Instead, you are just jealous of us’ lest we also acquire a share of the spoils, and therefore you say what you say.
k. In fact they do not understand anything of the religion except for a little.

48:16
a. Tell those desert nomads who had purposely stayed behind:
b. ‘Eventually, you are going to be called up to fight a people who are of a great might in warfare.
c. You will fight them or they will surrender.
d. Then, if you obeyed, Allah will give you an awesome reward.
e. However, if you turn away, as you turned away before, HE will punish you with a painful punishment.’

48:17
a. There will be no blame, however, on the blind, and
b. no blame on the disabled, and
c. no blame on the sick if they do not actively participate in the fighting.
d. And whoever obeys Allah and HIS Messenger, HE will admit him into Paradise through which rivers/streams flow.
e. But whoever turns away in disobedience, HE will punish him with a painful punishment.

48:18
a. Indeed, Allah was pleased with the believers when they were pledging allegiance to you -
O The Prophet - under the tree, while the fate of your emissary was still in question,
b. and HE Knew well what was in their hearts of sincerity and loyalty.
c. So HE sent down the spirit of tranquility and assurance upon them, and
d. rewarded them with news of an imminent upcoming victory..…..

48:19
a. and spoils of war in abundance that they were to capture.
b. And Allah is always Almighty, All-Wise.

48:20
a. Allah has promised you many more spoils of war in abundance from the upcoming conquests that you will capture.
b. Thus HE has hastened this victory and spoils for you,
c. and restrained the hands of hostile people against you.
d. This happened so that this may be a sign of Divine Help for the believers,
e. and that HE may guide you all along a Straight Path in which you should rely on HIM and entrust your affairs to HIM.

48:21
a. And there are many other spoils of war to come which are not within your power to achieve.
b. Yet Allah has accomplished them for you.
c. And Allah always Manifests Sovereignty over all existence.

48:22
a. And if those who disbelieve should ever fight you, they would certainly have turned their
backs and run away,
b. then they would have neither found an ally nor a helper to rescue them.

48:23
a. Such has been Allah’s precedence with all those who passed away before,
b. and you will never find any change in Allah’s such precedence.

48:24
a. And, it is HE WHO restrained their hostile hands against you, and
b. restrained your hands against them in the Valley of Makkah,
c. even after HE gave you victory over them.
d. And Allah has been always Watchful of whatever you do.

48:25
a. Allah defeated them because they were the ones who disbelieved and barred you from
visiting the Grand Sacred Masjid for worshipful presence,
b. and prevented your sacrificial animals from reaching their rightful place in Mina.
c. And had there not been some believing males and believing females living in Makkah, of whom you were not aware because they were hiding their faith, you might have trampled them,
d. and on whose account you would have inadvertently incurred a sense of guilt.
e. But this was not done so that Allah may admit into HIS Mercy whoever HE Wills.
f. Had they – believers and disbelievers - been clearly separated from one another, then WE
would have certainly punished those who disbelieved with a painful punishment.

48:26
a. Recall the time when those who disbelieved fostered a fury in their hearts – the fury of the time of paganism,
b. so Allah sent down HIS spirit of tranquility and assurance upon HIS Messenger Muhammad and upon the believers, and a truce was made on the condition that the believers would return the following year for the pilgrimage;
c. and made binding on them to uphold the spirit of Allah-consciousness -
d. for they were more deserving of it and more worthy of it than were the disbelievers.
e. And Allah is always Fully Aware of everything.

48:27
a. Indeed, Allah made the dream of HIS Messenger Muhammad come true that
b. you will soon enter the Grand Sacred Masjid in security, Allah Willing -
c. some of you will have heads shaven and others hair shortened, and no longer in fear of humiliation and persecution.
d. Thus, HE Knew of the truce at Hudaybiyyah which you did not know, and
e. besides that HE granted you an imminent victory as well.

48:28
a. It is HE WHO has assigned HIS Messenger Mohammad with The Guidance - The Qur’an
- and the Religion of Truth- Islam,
b. to make it prevail over every other religion – all of it.
c. And Allah is Sufficient as a Witness.

48:29
a. Muhammad ibn Abdallah is the Messenger of Allah.
b. And those who are with him are
- firm and unyielding against the disbelievers, but
- compassionate among themselves.
c. You will see them kneeling down and prostrating themselves in Salat/Prayers -
d. seeking Allah’s Grace and HIS Approval.
e. Their faces/foreheads bear the marks from the traces of prostration -
f. such is their likeness in The Torah.
g. And their likeness in The Injeel/Bible is like a sown seed that
- sprouts its shoots,
- then it strengthens,
- then it grows stout,
- then stands firmly on its stem,
h. a sight pleasing to the farmers -
i. that such firm belief enrages the disbelievers.
j. Allah has promised forgiveness and a great reward to those of them who believe and practice righteousness.
