49. Al-Hujurat/The Residential Rooms
I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah
The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.
49:01
a. O The Faithful!
b. Do not put your opinions ahead of that of Allah and HIS Messenger.
c. Rather, be mindful of Allah in awe, reverence, and piety,
d. for Allah Listens to your sayings, and Knows everything of your intensions and behavior.
49:02
a. O The Faithful!
b. Do not raise your voices above the voice of The Prophet Muhammad,
c. and do not be loud to him in speaking like the loudness of some of you to others, lest your
good deeds be wasted for a reward without your even realizing it.
49:03
a. Surely, those who lower their voices in the presence of Allah’s Messenger, those are the ones whose hearts Allah has chosen – after testing - for reverence and righteousness.
b. For them is going to be Allah’s forgiveness and a great reward: Paradise.
49:04
a. Surely, those who call you aloud - O The Prophet - from outside your residential rooms, most of them do not have any sense of manners.
49:05
a. And it would indeed have been better for them if only they had waited patiently for you to come out to them and met them,
b. Yet Allah is Ever-Forgiving to those who were unaware of these manners, Most Merciful
to them too when they become aware of it.
49:06
a. O The Faithful!
b. If a known troublemaker comes to you with some news/information, then investigate it and ascertain its truth before you share it with others and act upon it,
c. lest you harm a people unwittingly and later regret over what you may have done against them.
49:07
a. And be aware that it is the Messenger of Allah who is among you.
b. And if you tell a lie to him, Allah will inform him of the truth.
594 Surah 49 * Al-Hujurat
c. Were he to follow your opinions in many matters, you would indeed have been in trouble
and fallen into hardship beside committing a sinful attitude.
d. But Allah has
- endeared the Faith to you and has made it appealing and pleasing to your hearts, and
- made you detest disbelief and mischief making and disobedience.
e. Those - they are those who are guided aright.
49:08
a. This will be a great Favor from Allah and HIS Grace.
b. And Allah is All-Aware of them and All-Wise in HIS bestowal of grace on them.
49:09
a. And whenever two factions/contingents among the believers fight with each other,
b. then you should try to reconcile between them promptly.
c. And if one of them is clearly aggressing the other,
d. then fight the one which aggresses until it complies with Allah’s Command to keep peace.
e. Once it has complied, then make a just and equitable reconciliation between both of them.
f. Surely, Allah loves those who are just.
49:10
a. Indeed, all the believers are brothers and sisters among themselves;
b. they are like one family.
c. Therefore, make reconciliation between your brothers and sisters when they are at odds with each other, and
d. stay mindful of Allah’s instruction so that you may receive HIS Mercy.
49:11
a. O The Faithful!
b. Do not let one group of people make fun of or mock or jeer other group of people,
c. for it is quite likely that they may be better than them.
d. Nor shall you let one group of women ever make fun of or mock or jeer other group of
women,
e. for it is quite likely that they may be better than them.
f. And, do not slander one another,
g. and do not taunt by using offensive nicknames for one another.
h. And miserable shall it be to be called a mischief-maker after accepting the Faith of Islam.
i. And whoever does it but does not feel remorseful and turn in repentance and stops it,
j. then those – they will be the unjust/wrongdoers.
49:12
a. O The Faithful!
b. Avoid most suspicions for some suspicions are indeed sinful.
c. And do not spy/be curious to find out faults of others secretly,
d. do not speak ill of people behind their backs.
e. Would any one of you like eating the flesh of his dead brother?
f. No!
g. You would surely hate it - as disgusting and repulsive.
h. So always stay mindful of Allah’s injunctions and do not do it.
i. Surely, Allah is both Acceptor of Repentance of those who repent, and Merciful to those who repent.
49:13
a. O People of the World!
b. WE have created you all from a single pair of a male and a single female and made you into different nations and tribes,
c. so that you may identify with each other and get to know each other as relatives from the same ethnic origin.
d. However, the most honored among you with Allah is the one who remains the most mindful of Allah.
e. Surely, Allah is both Knowing and Aware of who is most mindful and best in piety among you.
49:14
a. The desert nomads say:
b. ‘We believe!’
c. Yet tell them:
d. ‘You have not believed.
e. Rather, you should say: ‘We have accepted Islam.’
f. For the spirit of belief has not yet penetrated into your hearts’ so as to be a part of your thinking, attitude, and behavior.
g. But if you obey Allah and HIS Messenger, HE will not then let any of your good deeds go waste.
h. Indeed, Allah is Ever-Forgiving when you turn to HIM in repentance, and Infinitely Compassionate as you die repentant.
49:15
a. In fact, true believers are those who
- believe in Allah and HIS Messenger Muhammad, and
- do not doubt the truthfulness of their belief, and
- strive diligently with their possessions and their persons in the Cause of Allah.
b. Those – they are the truthful and sincere.
49:16
a. Tell them:
b. ‘Are you really going to inform Allah about your faithfulness while Allah Knows whatever is within the celestial realm and within the terrestrial world -
c. and even though Allah is All-Aware about everything?’
49:17
a. O The Prophet!
b. They make it seem as if they are doing a favor to you by accepting Islam.
c. Tell them:
d. ‘Do not favor me by accepting Islam.
e. For it is Allah WHO has favored you by guiding you to the True Faith,
f. if you are honest in your utterance: ‘We believe!’
49:18
a. Indeed, Allah Knows all that is beyond human perception within the celestial realm and the terrestrial world.
b. And Allah is Watching whatever you do – publicly or privately!
