53. An-Najm/The Star

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

53:01
a. By the star when it sets.

53:02
a. Your companion who has lived amongst you for forty years is neither strayed nor is he deluded,
53:03
a. nor does he speak out of his own personal desire with regard to what he recites to you of The Qur’an,
53:04
a. that which he conveys to you - The Qur’an - it is nothing but a Divine Revelation, being
revealed on to him.

53:05
a. Taught to him by the One of Awesome in Power,

53:06
a. Full of wisdom.
b. HE stood poised,

53:07
a. while HE was on the highest part of the horizon.

53:08
a. Then HE drew near and came close,

53:09
a. so much so that it was left only a space of the strings of two bows – facing each other, surrounding him in all directions - or even closer than that.
53:10
a. So HE revealed on to HIS Servant Muhammad whatever HE revealed.

53:11
a. The Prophet’s heart did not lie about what it saw.
b. He neither perceived it as an illusion nor was it a hallucination.
c. It was a reality.

53:12
a. Are you, then, going to argue with him what he saw?

53:13
a. And, certainly, he saw HIM yet again at another time, too,

53:14
a. by the Lote Tree of the Extremity,

53:15
a. close to which is the Garden of Sanctuary/Tranquility.

53:16
a. This was when the Lote Tree was covered by that which covered it – overwhelmed in
splendor and overflowing in radiance.

53:17
a. Neither did his – The Prophet’s - sight waver, nor did it go beyond the limit.

53:18
a. And, certainly, he really saw some of the Most Awesome Wonders of his Rabb - The Lord.

53:19
a. Have you ever considered the idolatry images named Lat and `Uzza?

53:20
a. And the idolatry image of Manat, the other third of the pagan entities of worship?

53:21
a. Are you to have a preference for the male children while HIM to have the female children?

53:22
a. Then that would be an unfair attribution!

53:23
a. In fact, they are nothing but names that you have made up - you and your forefathers.
b. Allah has never sent down any permission for these: the feminine names of these idolatry images.
c. They are merely following conjectures and do whatever their souls may fancy,
d. even though The Guidance - The Qur’an - has now come to them from their Rabb - The Lord replacing all conjunctures, fantasies, and mythologies.

53:24
a. Or is it that a human being is actually going to have all that he might wish for -

53:25
a. despite the fact that whatever exists in the last as well as the first belongs to Allah?

53:26
a. And no matter how many angels there be in the heavens, and may they be honored in the Sight of Allah, their intercession will not benefit anyone at all,
b. unless whoever Allah may grant permission to intercede and whose plea HE pleases to approve.

53:27
a. Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter, they name the angels with the feminine names,

53:28
a. while they have no real knowledge about this.
b. They are following nothing but conjecture -
c. but conjecture can never substitute for anything of the truth.

53:29
a. O The Prophet!
b. So turn away from the one who turns away from OUR Messages, and
c. he seeks nothing but material pleasure of the life of this world,

53:30
a. as that is the limit of their knowledge.
b. Indeed, your Rabb - The Lord is Best Aware of whoever is straying away from HIS Path,
c. just as HE is also Best Aware of whoever is guided aright.

53:31
a. And to Allah alone belongs whatever is within the celestial realm and whatever is within the terrestrial world,
b. so that HE may payback those who do evil for their deeds with the evil of suffering,
c. while reward those who do good with the very best of benevolence.

53:32
a. As for those who refrain from major sins and immoralities, even though they may stumble into minor sins,
b. will find your Rabb - The Lord Abounding in HIS Forgiveness.
c. HE has been Best Aware of you since HE created you out of the earth, and
d. while you were still embryos in your mothers’ wombs - and not born yet.
e. Therefore, do not boastfully acclaim goodness and purity for yourselves,
f. for HE Knows Best the one who practices piety among you.

53:33
a. O The Prophet!
b. Have you noted the one who turns away from Teaching of The Qur’an,

53:34
a. and he gave very little, and then withheld?

53:35
a. What!
b. Would he have such a knowledge of the future
c. that he could actually see what is going to happen in the future?

53:36
a. Or has he never been told of what was said in the Scriptures of Moses,

53:37
a. and the Scriptures of Abraham - who always lived up to his word?

53:38
a. That no burdened-soul of misdeeds will carry the burden of misdeeds of any other soul;

53:39
a. and that every person will have nothing but the fruits of what he endeavored for in the worldly life;

53:40
a. and the result of his endeavors – deeds, dealings, and speech - will certainly be judged;

53:41
a. then he will be rewarded with a full and best reward for all such endeavoring: deeds, dealings and behavior;

53:42
a. and that the final destination is back to your Rabb - The Lord.

53:43
a. And, indeed, it is HE WHO causes laughter/happiness of people and weeping/grief to people;

53:44
a. and, indeed, it is HE WHO brings about both death and life;

53:45
a. and, indeed, it is also HE WHO creates the pairs of opposites - the male and the female-

53:46
a. out of a drop of seminal fluid ejected into the womb.

53:47
a. And that HE will affect the second cycle of existence for the Resurrection, after the first
creation.

53:48
a. And that it is HE WHO gives people wealth and prosperity;

53:49
a. and that it is HE WHO is Rabb - The Lord of the great star Sirius.

53:50
a. And that it was HE WHO destroyed the ancient people of ‘Ad,

53:51
a. and also Thamud -
b. leaving no trace of them.

53:52
a. And the People of Noah were destroyed even before them -
b. as they were certainly more evil and more rebellious.

53:53
a. And HE overturned the cities – HE overthrew.

53:54
a. So much so that even these covered them what covered them.

53:55
a. So which of your Rabb - The Lord’s Overwhelming Powers would you question?

53:56
a. This - Muhammad - is a Warner just like the Warners of the previous times.

53:57
a. The Imminent Time is getting close at hand-

53:58
a. there is no one to avert this doom time apart from Allah.

53:59
a. Are you then amazed by this discourse/narrative?

53:60
a. And you laugh mockingly at it and not weep at your fate,

53:61
a. while you still remain unmindful of what is required of you and amusing yourselves in worldly pleasantries.
