56. Al-Waqi’ah/The Event

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

56:01
a. When the Inevitable Event of Doom will descend, and herald the Resurrection,

56:02
a. then there will be no belying and denying of its descent;

56:03
a. it will be degrading and humbling some humans and jinn, and exalting some others.

56:04
a. When the whole of the terrestrial world will be shaken, shaken violently in a series of massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions,

56:05
a. and the mountains will be made to crumble, utterly crumbling,

56:06
a. so as turning it to dust, scattered in the air like puffed wool.

56:07
a. And you all will be sorted out into the following three diverse categories:

56:08
a. As for the first category:
b. the People of the right hand side – the lucky and blessed ones;
c. how lucky and blessed will be the People of the right hand side!

56:09
a. And the second category:
b. the People of the left hand side – the unlucky and wretched ones;
c. how unlucky and wretched will be the People of the left hand side!

56:10
a. And the third category:
b. those in the foremost who would have taken the lead
c. – indeed they will be the foremost in their race to seek Allah’s Countenance!

56:11
a. For those will be the ones brought near,

56:12
a. in Gardens of Perpetual Bliss - abounding in peace, tranquility, and blessings.

56:13
a. Many of the foremost will be of the earlier generations,

56:14
a. and only a few of the foremost of the later generations.

56:15
a. They will be seated upon well-woven luxurious couches,

56:16
a. reclining on them, facing one another.

56:17
a. Moving among them for service will be heavenly youth, immortal of never-ending bloom,

56:18
a. with cups and jugs, and glass filled with a drink from flowing spring….

56:19
a. …… a drink that would neither cloud their minds nor make them lose their senses,

56:20
a. and plenty of fruits of their own choosing,

56:21
a. and flesh of birds of their own choice.

56:22
a. And heavenly female companions - with dark, wide eyes,

56:23
a. just like pearls, well preserved -

56:24
a. all these as a reward for what they used to do in their worldly life.

56:25
a. They will neither hear or see or utter any vulgarity therein nor any evil conversation,

56:26
a. the only utterances they will hear be of contentment and peace.

56:27
a. As for the People of the right hand side,
b. how lucky and blessed will be the People of the right hand side!

56:28
a. they will be in the midst of lote trees, without thorns,

56:29
a. and acacia trees one after another with heaps of bloom,

56:30
a. with their cool shades, vastly spread out,

56:31
a. and water, in continuous flow,

56:32
a. and loads of fruits -

56:33
a. never diminishing, never restricted,

56:34
a. and they will be on raised couches.

56:35
a. Surely WE would have created them as a distinctive heavenly creation,

56:36
a. and made them never touched by any male, human, or jinn,

56:37
a. loving companions of the same age group,

56:38
a. for the People of the right hand side.

56:39
a. A host from the earlier generations,

56:40
a. and a host from the later generations as well.

56:41
a. As for the People of the left hand side,
b. how unlucky and miserable will be the People of the left hand side!

56:42
a. They will be in the midst of scorching fire and scalding water,

56:43
a. and under the shades of thick black smoke,

56:44
a. neither cooling, nor soothing.

56:45
a. Indeed, before that, the People of the left hand overindulged in worldly leisures and
pleasures without moral scruples,

56:46
a. and they would persist in the greatest sinful offenses – idolatry and blasphemy,

56:47
a. and they would ridicule while saying:
b. What!
c. ‘After we have died and turned to dust and bones, shall we still be resurrected’ in a new dimension of existence?

56:48
a. What!
b. ‘And so will be our forefathers of the long past too?’

56:49
a. Tell them O The Prophet:
b. Yes, ‘indeed!
c. Those of earlier as well as the later, generations....

56:50
a. ‘will indeed all be resurrected in a new dimension of existence and brought together at a
Predetermined Time, well-known.’

56:51
a. ‘Then, O you who have gone astray and belie the truth of the Resurrection!

56:52
a. ‘You will certainly be eating of the tree of Zaqqum,

56:53
a. ‘and filling your bellies with it,

56:54
a. ‘and drinking on top of it from scalding water,

56:55
a. ‘lapping it up like the lapping of over-thirsty sick camels.

56:56
a. Thus will be their reception and entertainment subsequent to the Time of Final Judgment.

56:57
a. It is the reality that WE created you, O human being, and brought you into existence without a precedent:
b. why, then, would you not affirm it and believe in US and OUR Unparalleled Creative Power?

56:58
a. Would you just consider the semen that you spill in the wombs of your wives -

56:59
a. is it you who would create a child out of it, or
b. are WE The Creators of it?

56:60
a. WE decree the death for all of you,
b. and nothing would stop US from this, and

56:61
a. nothing would stop US from transforming your forms, and recreating you in a state and form that you do not even know.

56:62
a. And, indeed, you have known the first form of creation, i.e., your present form of existence.
b. Why, then, will you not reflect on the anticipated second form of creation after the Resurrection?

56:63
a. Have you ever pondered over what you cultivate?

56:64
a. Do you make it grow into food crops, herbal plants, and fruit trees, or
b. are WE the Grower?

56:65
a. If it was OUR Will, WE could instantaneously make them - food crops, herbal plants, and fruit trees – broken debris,
b. and you would be left wonder struck, crying out:

56:66
a. ‘Indeed, we have been ruined!’

56:67
a. ‘No! But we have been deprived’ of our labor/livelihood!

56:68
a. Would you ever consider the water which you drink and is a source of life to you and your livestock?

56:69
a. Do you send it down from the rain-clouds, or
b. are WE the ones WHO send it down?

56:70
a. If it was OUR Will, WE could easily make it bitter, non-potable for you.
b. Why, then, should you not remain grateful to US by acknowledging OUR Unparalleled Creative Powers?

56:71
a. Would you ever note the fire that you ignite by friction and make the fire of the timber?

56:72
a. Is it you who would make the tree to grow for timber, or
b. is it WE to grow it?

56:73
a. WE have made it a means of reflection, and an article of use for the travelers.

56:74
a. So Glorify The Sacred Name of your Rabb - The Lord, the Supreme.

56:75
a. So no - I present as evidence the locations where stars descend.

56:76
a. And, surely, this is an evidence indeed – locations, positions, stages, and orbits of stars and planets in the cosmos world - if only you knew.

56:77
a. Surely this - what is being recited to you - is The Qur’an, The Honorable,

56:78
a. inscribed in a Book protected and well-guarded against satanic access and all corruption in its Sacred Arabic Text.

56:79
a. No one touches it but the purified.

56:80
a. This is a sending down from Rabb - The Lord of all existence.

56:81
a. Then would it be this discourse - The Qur’an - that you hold in low esteem?

56:82
a. And you get your livelihood from your Rabb - The Lord, yet you deny the divine descent of The Qur’an from the same Rabb - The Lord?

56:83
a. Why then, will you not intervene when the throes of death descend on a dying person, and the soul leaps up to the throat rattling?

56:84
a. And, you, at that very moment will be looking on, helpless and confounded?

56:85
a. At that very moment when WE are even closer to him – the dying person - than you to know of his state, but you do not see.

56:86
a. Then, why will you not intervene if you are not to be judged -

56:87
a. and bring the soul back to the dying body - if you are truthful?

56:88
a. So, if he – the dying person – be of those to be brought near and honored,

56:89
a. then he will have comfort and fragrance, and Garden of Perpetual Bliss.

56:90
a. While if he – the dying person – be of the People of the right hand side,

56:91
a. then there will be Peace and tranquility for the People of the right hand side.

56:92
a. However, if he – the dying person – be of the belier and straying from The Truth,

56:93
a. then there will be a reception and entertainment of scalding water for him,

56:94
a. and a continuous burning in Hell: without respite, without exit.

56:95
a. Surely this – it indeed is the absolute truth, most certainly.

56:96
a. So Glorify The Sacred Name of your Rabb - The Lord, the Supreme.
