59. Al-Hashr/The Encounter

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

59:01
a. Whatever is within the celestial realm and within the terrestrial world is Glorifying Allah
– The One and Only God.
b. And HE is The Almighty, The All-Wise.

59:02
a. It is HE WHO drove out those, who disbelieved, among the Followers of the former
Scriptures from their homes in the very first encounter of the two rival groups.
b. You would have never thought that they may ever leave so easily,
c. just as they thought that their strongholds would protect them from Allah.
d. But then Allah’s seizure came upon them from where they could not even perceive,
e. and HE cast such a terror into their hearts that they destroyed their houses with their own
hands, and with help of hands of the believers.
f. So learn a lesson from this, O People of Insight!

59:03
a. And had Allah not decreed exile for them, HE would have definitely punished them in this
world.
b. As for the Hereafter, they will definitely have the punishment of the Fire.

59:04
a. This is because they had opposed and challenged Allah and HIS Messenger.
b. And whoever challenges and opposes Allah and HIS Messenger should know then that
Allah is certainly severe in punishment.

59:05
a. The palm trees you had cut down of the enemy, or left standing on their stem was by Allah’s Permission,
b. and it was so that HE would disgrace the rebellious.

59:06
a. And whatever Allah bestowed as spoils of war upon HIS Messenger, you did not battle for it with horses or camels;
b. instead, it happened because Allah grants power to HIS Messengers against whoever HE wants.
c. And Allah Manifests Sovereignty over all existence.

59:07
a. Whatever spoils of war Allah has bestowed upon HIS Messenger Muhammad from the people of the town, belong to the following six categories:
- Allah, and
- the Messenger Muhammad, and
- the kinsfolk, and
- the orphans, and
- the destitute, and
- the traveler in need.
b. This is so that it would not concentrate only among the few wealthy among you.
c. So take it willingly whatever The Messenger would give of it to you, and
d. whatever things he would forbid, stop asking for it.
e. And fear disobedience to Allah’s Injunction.
f. And in case of any deliberate and persistent disobedience, remember that Allah is definitely
severe in Punishment.

59:08
a. There would also be a share for the emigrants from Makkah who are poor and were driven out of their homes and deprived of their possessions,
b. and you should seek
- bounty and protection of Allah, and
- support of Allah and HIS Messenger -
c. those - they are the truthful of their word and deed.

59:09
a. And in spoils of war there would also be a share for those in Madeenah who had provided them with shelter, and had accepted the Faith before them;
b. they love those who had taken refuge with them,
c. and they find no hesitation in their hearts in helping them, and readily prefer them over
themselves, even when they needed what they give away.
d. Indeed, whoever would overcome one’s greed, those - they will be successful.

59:10
a. And there would also be a share in spoils of war for those who came after them pray:
b. O ‘Our Rabb - The Lord!
c. Forgive us and our brethren and sisters in Islam who preceded us in the Faith,
d. and do not let any traces of ill-feeling or animosity remain in our hearts against those who have believed.
e. O Our Rabb - The Lord!
f. YOU are, indeed, Merciful, Infinitely Compassionate.’

59:11
a. Have you not noted those who would act hypocritically?
b. They would say to their brethren among Followers of the former Scriptures who disbelieve:
- ‘If you would ever to be driven out from Madeenah, we too will go out with you, and
- we will never follow anyone against you, and
- if you are attacked, we will definitely support you.
c. But Allah bears witness that they are definitely liars.

59:12
a. To be sure if they were driven out, they will not go out with them,
b. and if they were attacked, they will not support them.

c. And even if they supported them, they will turn their backs,
d. then they will not be helped.

59:13
a. O The Faithful!
b. Undoubtedly, you incite greater fright in their hearts than Allah.
c. That is because they are a people who do not understand the truth of Divine Power and Might.
59:14
a. They will never fight you even when opportunistically united together in an open
battlefield,
b. except from within fortified strongholds, or from behind high-security walls.
c. While their discord among themselves is severe, you may reckon them to be united, but in fact, their hearts are at odds and divided towards diverse ends.
d. This is because they are a people who have no understanding of the situations they face.

59:15
a. They are more like those who just preceded them.
b. They tasted the consequences of their decisions and actions -
c. and for them is going to be a painful punishment.

59:16
a. Their allies had deceived them just like the parable of the Satan, when he would instigate human:
b. ‘Disbelieve!’
c. Then once he would start to disbelieve, the Satan will say:
d. ‘I am free of you; I have nothing to do with you;
e. for indeed, I am fearful of Allah, Rabb - The Lord of all existence.’

59:17
a. So the fate for both will be the Fire, abiding therein forever: never to leave, never to die.
b. And such is going to be the payback for the evildoers.

59:18
a. O The Faithful!
b. Be mindful of Allah’s Injunctions!
c. And let every person consider what he would have sent forward for tomorrow.
d. And be mindful of Allah in a manner that keeps you away from HIS disobedience -
e. for Allah is Fully-Aware of whatever you do.

59:19
a. And do not be like those who were oblivious of Allah’s rights by disobeying HIS Injunctions.
b. So HE punished them and made them to be oblivious of themselves by not practicing righteousness that could save them.
c. Those - they are the sinful.

59:20
a. Remember that The People of the Fire can never be equal to the People of the Paradise.
b. The People of the Paradise – they will be successful.

59:21
a. Had WE made this, The Qur’an, to descend onto a mountain endowed with intellect and comprehension granted to human beings,
b. you would have certainly seen it humbled and splitting in its awe of Allah?
c. And such are the similes WE cite for a people so that they may reflect and believe in the divine origin of The Qur’an and model their lives accordingly.

59:22
a. HE is Allah besides WHOM there is no entity of worship,
b. Allah, the Knower of what is beyond human perception and senses, and
c. also the Knower of what is perceived, open and visible in the corporeal realm.
d. HE is The Immensely Merciful, The Infinitely Compassionate.

59:23
a. HE is Allah besides WHOM there is no entity of worship,
b. Allah, the Sovereign,
c. Allah, the All-Holy – most pure of all purities,
d. Allah, the Source of Peace,
e. Allah, the Giver of Faith,
f. Allah, the Guardian over all,
g. Allah, the Almighty,
h. Allah, the Irresistible,
i. Allah, the Lord of Majesty.
j. HE is far too Exalted than anything they would associate with HIM in divinity and worship.

59:24
a. HE is Allah,
b. Allah, the Creator,
c. Allah, the Originator,
d. Allah, the Giver of Shapes and Forms.
e. For HIM are The Sacred Names and Majestic Attributes - The Most Beautiful.
f. Everything within the celestial realm and within the terrestrial world is Glorifying HIM, and
HE is The Almighty, The All-Wise.
