66. Al-Tahreem/The Prohibition

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

66:01
a. O The Prophet!
b. Why should you prohibit for yourself that Allah has allowed to you just to please your wives?
c. Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Ever-Merciful.

66:02
a. Allah has already prescribed a way regarding the absolution of your oaths.
b. And Allah is your Protector, and
c. HE is the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.

66:03
a. And when The Prophet confided a matter to one of his wives, then she disclosed it to another and Allah made it known to him – The Prophet.
b. He made some of it known to her and passed over some of it.
c. So when he told her of it, she asked:
d. ‘Who told you of this?’
e. He responded:
f. ‘The All-Knowing, the All-Wise told me.’

66:04
a. If both of you would repent to Allah it will be good for you as your hearts are inclined towards it.
b. But if you both would support each other against him – The Prophet - then it is Allah WHO is his Protector, and so are Gabriel and the righteous among the believers, and also the angels, are his supporters.

66:05
a. O Wives of The Prophet!
b. It may well be that if he were to divorce you all, then his Rabb - The Lord would give him wives in your place - better than you: submitting, believing, dutiful, repentant, worshiping, devout - previously married as well as virgins.

66:06
a. O The Faithful!
b. Guard yourselves and your families from a Fire - its fuel is to be sinful people and stones -

662 Surah 66 * Al-Tahreem

c. over which will be fierce and stern angels, who never disobey Allah in executing whatever
HE Commands them to do,
d. and they do exactly what they are commanded.

66:07
a. During the Time of Judgment, they will be told:
b. ‘O The Disbelievers!
c. Do not make any excuses now.
d. You are being paid back only for whatever you had been doing’ recklessly during the worldly life.

66:08
a. O The Faithful!
b. Repent to Allah with sincere repentance.
c. It may well be that your Rabb - The Lord will accept your sincere repentance and absolve you of your sinful trespasses and oversights, and
d. admit you into the Gardens with rivers running below.
e. At the Time when Allah will not let The Prophet be embarrassed and those who believed with him:
f. with their lights spreading around them, and to their right hand that holds book of their good deeds and dealings, while they say:
- O ‘Our Rabb - The Lord!
- Complete our light for us and forgive us,
g. Indeed, YOU Manifest Sovereignty over all existence.’

66:09
a. O The Prophet!
b. Motivate the Faithful to
- strive diligently against the disbelievers and the hypocrites as and when circumstances demand so, and
- be firm with them.
c. Hell will be their home -
d. and it is going to be an awful and woeful destination!

66:10
a. Allah sets forth an example of two persons those who disbelieved in OUR Messengers and their Message: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot.
b. Both were under two of OUR righteous servants, yet both acted treacherously toward the Mission and Message of their husbands.
c. And, consequently, they both – Noah and Lot - could not help them – their wives - against
the Wrath of Allah,
d. and both were told while their souls were leaving their bodies:
e. ‘Enter the Fire, both of you, with those who enter:’ never to leave, never to die.

66:11
a. And Allah also sets forth another example of the one who believed: the wife of Pharaoh,
b. when she pleaded:
- O ‘My Rabb - The Lord!
- Make for me a house, near YOU in the Paradise,
- and save me from Pharaoh and the backfiring of his policies and actions;
- and also save me from the community of Pharaoh who are evil-doers.’

66:12
a. And Allah sets forth another example of the one who believed:
b. Mary, daughter of Imran, who preserved her chastity/virginity,
c. then WE breathed into it of OUR Spirit,
d. and she testified as truth to the Words of her Rabb - The Lord and HIS Revelations,
e. and she was of those who were diligently dutiful toward their Rabb - The Lord.
