72. Al-Jinn/The Jinn

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

72:01
a. Say O The Prophet:
b. It has been revealed onto me that a number of Jinn listened to the recital of this Qur’an.
c. Then they discussed it among themselves and said:
d. ‘We have indeed listened to a Magnificent Recital/Qur’an!’

72:02
a. ‘It guides to what is the right approach to living a life that leads to Allah.
b. So we believe in it.
c. And we will never ascribe anyone to our Rabb - The Lord.’

72:03
a. ‘And Exalted be the Majesty of our Rabb - The Lord,
b. HE has neither ever taken a wife nor ever a son’ – HE has no family.

72:04
a. ‘But the naïve among us have been uttering outrageous lies against Allah,’ which is an enormous falsehood.

72:05
a. ‘And we, in fact, always thought that neither the human nor the jinn would ever utter such
falsehood against Allah.’

72:06
a. ‘But some males from among the human do seek help from males among the jinn, and
b. that only increases them – humankind - in transgression’ and misguidance.

72:07
a. ‘So they thought even as you thought that Allah would never resurrect anyone.’

72:08
a. ‘And we sought to reach out for the higher realms to overhear some news,
b. but found it full of fierce guards and scorching flames/meteors.’

72:09
a. ‘And we sought to sit in places of proximity to the higher realms to listen to the Angels’ Assembly,

Surah 72 * Al-Jinn 685

b. though anyone who would attempt to do so will find a scorching flame/meteor seeking him.’

72:10
a. ‘And we would not know whether ill/evil was intended for anyone on the earth,
b. or their Rabb - The Lord intended good for them.’

72:11
a. ‘And of course, some of us are virtuous, and some of us other than that.
b. In fact, we follow different ways’ of faith.

72:12
a. ‘And we realized that we could neither escape the power of Allah on the earth,
b. nor outpace HIM by running away’ somewhere in the heavens.

72:13
a. ‘And, as soon as we heard The Guidance from the recital of The Qur’an, we believed in it.
b. So whoever believes in his Rabb - The Lord will neither have to fear any injustice nor oppression’ in the Hereafter.

72:14
a. ‘And among us some submit in worship to Allah and are Muslims, and among us are also
the deviators from the truth of Islam.
b. As for those who submit, they have found the right approach’ to life and eternal peace.

72:15
a. ‘And as for the deviators, they are going to be fuel for Hell.’

72:16
a. Say:
b. ‘And if they keep to the right path, WE would provide them with blessings of rain water in abundance:’ for them, their farms and livestock,

72:17
a. so that WE may try them through this blessing.
b. But whoever turns away from the Remembrance of his Rabb - The Lord,
c. HE will make him suffer a punishment ever increasing’ in severity.

72:18
a. And, indeed, Masajid/Places of Worship are for Allah.
b. Thus, do not call upon/invoke anyone - proverbial or metaphorical - along with Allah in Masajid and other places of worship, be these churches, synagogues, or temples.

72:19
a. And whenever the Servant of Allah would stand up in prayers in the House of Allah,
b. they - the jinn – would almost crowd upon him in their eagerness to listen to The Qur’an.

72:20
a. Declare O The Prophet:
b. ‘I call upon only on my Rabb - The Lord, and
c. I ascribe no one in partnership to HIM.’

72:21
a. Also declare:
b. ‘Indeed, I have no power over what harm or benefit,
c. or guidance or misguidance may come to you.’

72:22
a. Proclaim:
b. ‘No one can ever protect me from Allah’s punishment were I to disobey HIM,
c. and should HE ever so Will, I can never find any refuge apart from HIM.’

72:23
a. The Mission assigned to me is to convey the Divine Truth from Allah - The Qur’an - and HIS Messages -
b. for whoever disobeys Allah and HIS Messenger, surely for him will be the Fire of Hell,
c. therein to remain forever – never to leave, never to die.

72:24
a. They will not change their attitudes until they see what they have been promised - the Fire of Hell,
b. then they will realize whose helpers are weaker, and whose supporters are fewer in number.

72:25
a. Tell them O The Prophet:
b. ‘I do not know whether what you have been promised is near, or
c. whether my Rabb - The Lord has appointed a distant time for it as it all pertains to the realm of imperceptible.

72:26
a. For HE alone is the Knower of all that is beyond human senses and perception,
b. and HE does not disclose HIS Knowledge of the imperceptible to anyone.

72:27
a. As for those to whom HE approves as a Messenger, they cannot say anything on their own.
b. So HE makes a band of watching guards – angels - in front of him and behind him,

72:28
a. so that HE may know that they have indeed conveyed the Messages of their Rabb - The Lord.
b. And HE encompasses all that is with them, and
c. HE keeps a count of everything.
