73. Al-Muzzammil/The Enwrapped
I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah
The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.
73:01
a. O Al-Muzzammil!
b. O The Enwrapped - Muhammad!
73:02
a. Stay up in worshipful meditation through the late nighttime,
b. except for a little while,
73:03
a. - half of it,
b. or a little less than that, up to a third,
73:04
a. or even a little more, up to two-thirds.
b. And recite The Qur’an in a slow and distinct recitation.
73:05
a. Indeed, soon WE are going to entrust a heavy burden on you - awe-inspiring –
b. - The Qur’an.
73:06
a. Surely, the getting up by late nighttime for worshipful meditation is very demanding,
b. yet very rewarding for subduing one’s soul, and
c. making recitation more effective -
73:07
a. - for, indeed, during the daytime you have extended schedule of engagements.
73:08
a. But recite The Sacred Name of your Rabb - The Lord,
b. and devote yourself to HIM exclusively in wholesome devotion.
73:09
a. HE is Rabb - The Lord of the east and the west.
b. There is no worshipful entity except HIM.
c. So take HIM as your Guardian and Guarantor.
688 Surah 73 * Al-Muzzammil
73:10
a. And bear with patience over what they allege against you and your Divine Mission,
b. and keep a distance from them in a gracious manner.
73:11
a. And leave it to ME to deal with the beliers and deniers who have been given the good things in life.
b. And bear with them for a little while.
73:12
a. Indeed, with US are fetters to bind them and a Blazing Fire -
b. to make them taste the consequences of their attitude and behavior,
73:13
a. and a food that will make them choke, and
b. a merciless punishment.
73:14
a. They will experience all this at the Time when the earth and the mountains will be made to
shake violently,
b. and the mountains will be turned into crumbling heaps of shifting sand.
73:15
a. O People of the World!
b. WE have, indeed, assigned Muhammad to you as a Messenger as well as a witness over you -
c. just as WE had assigned a Messenger - Moses - for Pharaoh.
73:16
a. But Pharaoh belied and denied the Messenger, so WE seized him mercilessly with a grievous punishment.
b. Thus shall your disobedience make you suffer ruthless consequences!
73:17
a. So how could you consider yourselves righteous when you deny and belie the coming of the Time,
b. the severity of which will even turn the children hoary – looking aged?
73:18
a. The severity of the Time will cause the celestial realm to disintegrate and fall apart.
b. Thus, HIS Promise is bound to fulfill.
73:19
a. Indeed, this is a reminder to a people who remain conscious of Allah’s Might and Power, and submit to HIS Messages and Messenger,
b. so whoever would like, let him strive to follow a Path leading to his Rabb - The Lord.
73:20
a. O The Prophet!
b. Surely your Rabb - The Lord is well aware that you stay up for tahajjud prayers for a little less than two-third of the nighttime,
c. and at times, half of it, and at other times, even a third of it, and
d. so do some of those who are with you in faith.
e. And Allah determines the measure of the nighttime and the daytime which HE created.
f. HE knows that you would not be able to continue it for long, so HE has turned to all of you in mercy.
g. So recite/read as much of The Qur’an as may be easy for you but do it regularly.
h. HE knows that
- some of you may be ill, and
- some of you will be traveling the land, seeking Allah’s Grace by way of livelihood, and
- yet still others fighting in the Cause of Allah.
i. Therefore, recite/read as much of The Qur’an as is easy for you; but
- establish the Salat/Prayers, and
- pay out Zakat /annual charity, and
- lend to Allah a good loan.
j. And whatever deeds of righteousness you will thus send ahead for your own selves, you
will find these with Allah much better in condition, and
k. with a greater reward than all that you leave behind in the world.
l. So seek forgiveness from Allah.
m. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving whoever repents and Compassionate towards the one who dies repentant.
