78. An-Naba’/The Great News

I/We begin by the Blessed Name of Allah

The Immensely Merciful to all, The Infinitely Compassionate to everyone.

78:01
a. What are they asking one another about?

78:02
a. Is it about the Great News of the Time of Final Judgment and its Correlatives?

78:03
a. The one about which they are in suspicion and disputing with you – O The Prophet.

78:04
a. But no!
b. They will soon know the truth of its reality!

78:05
a. And then, oh no!
b. They will soon know the truth of its reality!

78:06
a. Have WE not made the earth a resting place like a bed for you,

78:07
a. and set the strong mountains as its pegs?

78:08
a. And WE created you in pairs,

78:09
a. and made your sleep for resting,

78:10
a. and made the nighttime a covering,

78:11
a. and made the daytime for your livelihood.

78:12
a. And WE built above you seven celestial realms - strong, solid, and firm,

a. and set therein Sun as a luminous lamp,

78:14
a. and sent down abundant water from the water-laden clouds,

78:15
a. so that WE may bring out thereby grain and vegetation,

78:16
a. as well as gardens of dense growth.

78:17
a. Surely the Time of Division is an Appointed Time.

78:18
a. The Time when the Trumpet will be sounded,
b. and you will come out of your graves to the site of Resurrection in swarming crowds,

78:19
a. and when the celestial realm will be opened up wide as if it had become full of gates - wide open.

78:20
a. And the mountains will be set in motion as if they were a mirage – existence without reality.

78:21
a. Hell will indeed be in waiting for the sinners,

78:22
a. a refuge for the transgressors,

78:23
a. wherein they will remain for ages - long, long time,

78:24
a. they will neither experience coolness there nor drink of a delightful taste,

78:25
a. except for boiling liquid of extreme temperatures and filthy fluid,

78:26
a. which will be a befitting payback for their disbelief and a life full of sin.

78:27
a. Indeed, they never anticipated being called to account,

78:28
a. and, thus, they vehemently denied and belied OUR Messages.

78:29
a. But WE enumerated everything in a book.

78:30
a. ‘So now taste!
b. For never shall WE increase you in anything except punishment in addition to your due punishment.

78:31
a. Indeed, as for the righteous, there will be a great fulfillment by being in Paradise -

78:32
a. with gardens and vineyards,

78:33
a. as well as youthful heavenly companions of equal age,

78:34
a. and every cup full and overflowing.

78:35
a. Therein they will neither hear any vulgar talk nor any word of falsehood:

78:36
a. a reward from your Rabb - The Lord, in recognition of your deeds in the worldly life,

78:37
a. from the Rabb - The Lord of the celestial realm and the terrestrial world and whatever is
within and between them.
b. The Immensely Merciful-
c. to Whom they have no power to speak.

78:38
a. The Time when the Spirit and the angels will stand in line,
b. no one will speak unless The Immensely Merciful grants the permission, and
c. will speak only the truth.

78:39
a. That will be the Time of Truth.
b. So whoever wishes to be secure from eternal punishment,
c. let him seek recourse to his Rabb - The Lord through belief and practicing righteousness.

78:40
a. Indeed, WE warn you of an imminent punishment -
b. - the Time when every person will see whatever of the deeds his own hands have sent ahead
of them, and
c. when the disbeliever will say in dismay and frustration:
d. ‘I am doomed!
e. Oh … If only I were merely dust’
f. so that I would not have been held accountable!
